That "Audience with" special Connolly did for ITV in the 80s is still one of the funniest sets any comic has done anywhere.
Totally agree.
He must have/still be doing something right, his younger peers are crediting him with paving the way.
I agree with them, he emerged during the age of Bernard Manning, Jim Davidson, and the more family friendly comics, but offered something totally different. In the UK at least there was no one like him.
He can still be controversial and his material is never repetative. And he has never fallen into the trap of over exposure on tv like todays most popular stand ups.
I ashamed to admit I haven't heard about some of the American's comedians some of the people on here have mention, but having give them a quick listen they seem great, definitely will look into them more.

Jackie Mason is well worth a look if you haven't seen him.
I take it all these people saying 'I can't believe [insert name of young comedian] is higher than [insert name of old comedian]' are actually old themselves and remember the 'good old days' and are feeling nostalgic and getting upset that someone new is better than their old favourite.
It was dire. The list has no order at all - I half expected to see the likes of Dawn French at number one or something. Lenny Henry appearing in a top 100 was the funniest part of the show!

It was like a tampax advert for slapheads.

How do I get to vote on this? Do I have to take up Stand-Up myself?

I knew he would win again; but for some reason the demon of optimism hoped I was wrong...

These list always mix current popularity and confuse it with greatness.
Russell Howard higher than Jackie Mason? Yeah, right.
Jackie Mason is well worth a look if you haven't seen him.
Very funny guy.
...anyone know a decent solicitor or will I need the Duty Solicitor I used in 2007?
Not a massive fan of Mason from the little I have seen, he was great in the simpsons though.
