It doesn't matter what it is. You shouldn't be drinking during learning or working hours. Drink the alcohol when they get home; not at university. But then, that doesn't give them the chance to be the big show-off in front of all their little friends.
I'm pretty sure consenting adults can make their own decisions without consulting you.

    What about the Students union?

It was never about the Muslims, or indeed about anyone getting offended on anyone's behalf. I think this is probably accurate- "Muslim students are being used as a scapegoat because it is deemed an easier way out than to explain to those students who use the bar that to renew the lease would be costly, and having to face backlash from the students who are paying for their ultimate ‘university experience’. "

The guy just wanted to close the bar, and the Muslims were a convenient excuse. Unfortunately for him, it looks like his assumptions about their attitudes were incorrect. He probably believes all the shit he reads in the papers.

    That's the answer.

After reading the original thread he was certainly using the Muslims as a reason to close the bars.

This is the thing . more often than not they are not consulted, some middle class usually white Brirtish person decides who may be offended in their mind and acts without thought for the damage they may actually cause, because rarely does that person get the blame but instead a group of people who never asked for a change is vilified for it.

    Brill post and well said

How many have you visited, before you came up with your conclusion? So you do think alcohol should be allowed now?

I often wonder when people do calls for bans on this, that or the other "in case it causes offence" wether the people who are meant to be offended were ever actually asked.

There's a certain breed of Leftie that spends their time getting thoroughly outraged on other groups behalf, when the groups in question couldn't care less. Their meddling and faux outrage usually causes the very problems and divisions they are "fighting" against (and often didn't exist in the first place).

Bravo, I applaud the Muslim student position.

I do occasionally drink, and would not support such a ban :)

It is amazing how some people like telling others what they should and should not be doing.

I bet you spend your evenings wringing your hands and crying yourself to sleep listening to the sound of other people having fun.

That's a very good letter they have sent to the Professor.
And I agree that the Telegraph have done well to follow up on the original story.

But this is an example of why we need newspapers to pick up on stories like this. There's a lot of mini Hitlers in society who try and impose what they want using underhand means, what else stands in their way unless it's the press?

I know people don't like the press, but the alternative is worse.

I do agree with a lot of that, but sometimes it's the press themselves that have an agenda and use underhand tactics to promote it. How much mileage did the far-right get out of the Daily Mail's "Winterval" myth? It took the paper 14 years to admit they'd made it up.

The press needn't be the enemy. They just need to report more responsibly and obtain their all their stories in an ethical manner. Why is that so hard for them to do?!

Not cool. Not big. Not clever.

    Grow up. Get a clue.

No, I just can't this "drink drink drink" culture, in which sad little people think that having a good time is all about drinking alcohol. Posing in photographs with a drink in hand or photographing a dozens of your empty beer bottles doesn't make one cool.

These people are philistines that don't know anything about culture and respect. They would rather holiday consecutively in Ayia Napa etc, rather than experience the Amazon Jungle in Brazil or the scenery of South Africa.

Horrible people with no style or taste.

I get invited to many parties, but mostly refuse. I'd rather have half-way intelligent discussions and experiences with friends, rather than a vapid "live for the moment and get pissed" drinking session.
