Is there any such thing as a decent Tory?

Or are the two things mutually exclusive?

Serious question. I can't think of a single Tory Minister who seems a decent person and their 'celebrity' followers are equally vile (think Jeremy Clarkson and Katie Hopkins).

The Tories I actually know are self interested people with little compassion or thought for anyone else but themselves.

So, is it possible to be Tory and decent?

Oh and please, don't so the usual Tory thing of attacking Labour thus avoiding answering the question, as that simply confirms the above hypothesis.

That is not a hypothesis, that is just your own blind prejudice.

I'm a socialist and have nothing but contempt for this government, but of course there are some decent people who vote Tory.

I think most of them are good people, but they do seem to be a bit lacking in empathy and compassion.

I get the impression that some conservatives would prefer to live in a country with lots of millionaires and lots of people in poverty than a country with no millionaires and no people in poverty (or they think the latter can't even exist).

I also think some of them focus almost entirely on the economy and forget about the actual people living in this country.

I don't think David Cameron and other conservatives are bad people (I think he genuinely is doing what he thinks is best for the country), they just have a different way of looking at the world, one that I personally disagree with.

I found the one about the Right being more objective insulting. Look where it got me. Both sides seem to be as bad as each other.

This kind of post just shows how thick a lot of Labour supporters are.

How are people so certain of the way their acquaintances, friends and family vote?

I have no idea which way my friends or acquaintances vote. I would never ask and people lie anyway. I think it's a private thing, so how do you know who is a Tory and who isn't?

Regardless of their political leaning almost every person in the UK is decent, then there are the people that believe threads like like are a great contribution to society.

What a pointless and nasty argument to try to whip up..

2/10 Low on originality, although you get a point for the volume of people you're trying to troll.

    Must do better next time.

How about David Cameron, George Osborne, Teresa May, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid , William Hague... etc etc etc.

These are people who've taken very tough decisions. The country was nearly bankrupt.
Time and time again this government has done the decent thing when the easy thing to do was to ignore a problem and do nothing.

On this day when Labour are highlighting the NHS that it was the Tories who commissioned a proper inquiry into the goings on at Mid Staffs hospital. Labour just wanted the whole debacle forgotten.

I know lots of decent people who are tories, I just think they have been indoctrinated by the media, especially the Mail, Express, Sun and Telegraph, and have been scared by the 'labour will bankrupt the country - there is no money' line.

To be anywhere near a socialist in this country, you have to think beyond the headlines, and many don't.

However, I do think there are many self-interested and nasty tories too. IDS being a prime example.
