    In fairness the OP posted he had heard Dickie had died if I'm not mistaken a good 45 mins before the Beeb announced it
    I heard it on BBC 3 at ten when they announced it was news just in

    The same thing happened a few months ago when it was reported both Shirley Temple Black and Deanna Durbin had both died
    Both reports retracted and several hours before both confirmed
    At the time it seems that the reports had come from a dodgy website so fair play to the OP if he had misgivings as to the source of the report and requested it pulled

    Earlier that day, a hoax spread and it was claimed to be untrue of course but no one expected it to be real. But of course Richard passed at lunchtime and several media outlets could have written about it before the Beeb said anything.
