    It's a Wonderful Life
    Cape Fear
    The Big Sleep
    The Maltese Falcon
    Dark Passage

Bit of a Bogie fan I'm afraid!

I've tried to explain to the missus many times why I love B&W movies, but she just doesn't understand.

I think rainy sunday afternoons is the perfect time for them. :)

Have to go for 12 Angry Men.

    Casablanca would be 2nd.

Love to see some of the old Laurel & Hardy's on a wet winter afternoon.

There's loads of old ones, many already mentioned but I would add:

    Sunset Boulevard
    Night of the Iguana
    Inherit the Wind

Modern day these spring to mind:

    Paper Moon
    Manhattan
    Rumblefish
    Elephant Man
    The Last Picture Show
    Raging Bull
    Good night and Good Luck
    Ed Wood

Im surprised not many mentions for the old British films - the Ealing comedies in particular, like The Ladykillers, The Smallest Show On Earth, The Titfield Thunderbolt, Passport To Pimlico, or my own particular favourite Hobson's Choice.

    Also what about the silents?

The Wicked Lady is fantastic, as is Kind Hearts and Coronets ( even my 14yr old likes that one )

The Ladykillers was in colour which it why it's missing from my list. But i see what you mean because I have left off The Lavender Hill Mob & The Man in the White Suit from my previous post. I couldn't think of them all !

    Surely Thunderbolt was in colour?

I think if you go back to the days of B & W there are too many to mention but my personal favourites from the silent age are Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton.

Can I just say I must be the only person who doesn't care for It's A Wonderful Life. I just don't get the fuss.

Maybe I'm wrong, but weren't Thunderbolt and The Ladykillers colorised?

Still haven't seen Waterloo Bridge, but my wife tells me it gets shown on Chinese TV all the time.

My favourites are the German expressionist films in b/w:
    Metropolis
    Nosferatu
    M
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (my all-time favourite!)

+ some of the other classics:
All Quiet on the Western Front
    King Kong
    Casablanca
Plan 9 from Outer SPace (funniest film ever, especialy once you've seen Ed Wood)

    and a few modern classics:
    La Haine
    Schindler's List
    Elephant Man
    Sin City

Yep, apparently it's a big hit over in China. I had to import my copy from Korea. Sometimes you can catch it on TCM.

I can't believe I forgot Rebecca! One of my absolute favourite films!
