Well said maleese. I think the media these days go too far

You know what this is yet again turning into a jades lying about cancer thread and its boring and pointless, its like going round in circles I'll come back when hopefully you have all stopped repeating yourself have fun!

I dont think many dispute the fact Jade has cancer. The discussion is more about the way it`s being handled, publicised and the inaccuracies with the press etc etc.,

Do you honestly think that journalists and paparazzi are following Jade? They're not. All her photos in the press are pre-arranged by Max Clifford with express approval by Jade

I post because I find a lot of the misinformation she is spreading is dangerous.

    That's just me.

Cancer is a hideous disease, and the agony we hear about Jade could deter people from getting checked out or treated.

I'm not saying it should be hidden away, but being treated for cancer is a very personal matter, and shouldn't be a media circus featuring every collapse, treatment or hospital visit.

I read a post on a cancer forum from one woman absolutely terrified about going in for a radical hysterectomy since reading about Jade`s 8hr operation :(

She was assured by other members not to pay attention to the media circus.

No of course not! Nor can I see where my post indicated that was my belief.

It really doesn't matter who approves or sells the photos - the fact is that we have a media that buys and publishes them.

One thing I noticed after watching Jades show was when she was having the tattoo on her wrist. She was writhing around and bleating about how much it hurt. I hardly felt a thing when my wrist was tattooed. I do think she likes to go for the dramatic effect and the sympathy

and 20% more women have gone for smear tests since Jade's story hit the media, which can only be a good thing.

I have my doubts at the claims SHeffield went up from 250 a week to 750 a day!

The photograph is a still from her documentary and was taken some time ago. It is not a current photograph. They show this still at the end of the last part of the documentary on Living as part of an excerpt from the next piece to be shown on TV.

It isn't a photograph of Jade in her current stay in the Marsden.

The Royal Marsden is one of the top end NHS hospitals which also has a private patient wing. Private patient wings are like hotels. This is reflected in the care and the cleanliness of the wing. Private patients get much better conditions than the average NHS patient, although they do try to do their best for the patients.

I'm not sure how the Marsden work their oncology treatments but where I was treated we were altogether in one area of the hospital, although in separate cubicles and rooms. If you were too ill to leave your bed or were an in-patient they would do the treatment there. The area was made as pleasant as possible and if you were just in for the day you sat in a comfortable chair while the drugs were administered, although there was a proper hospital bed if you felt really unwell.

There didn't appear to be any shortage of the infusion equipment at the hospital I attended and sometimes they were hired out if it was felt that a patient would be better treated at home. This did not happen to me, but another lady I was at the hospital with did have it done at home regularly. But like most NHS facilities that probably varies from area to area. There is a lack of equality in equipment and services across the NHS these days.

The thing that bothers me very much about the photograph from the Sun and that struck me at the time when I saw the documentary was the fact that the picture had been allowed to be taken at all. When you are feeling that ill you are in no fit state to defend yourself. To me she looks vulnerable while asleep, no matter what her condition and any hospital worth their salt with a decent staff would not allow such a picture to be taken in the first place unless the patient had given their tacit consent.

So what do we assume from that? That Jade's photograph was taken without permission and shopped around the tabloids or that she specifically said that they could take that footage?

Let's not get away from the point of the thread which is about Jade's CURRENT hospital stay, not about the conditions surrounding her when she had her treatment a few weeks ago during filming of the documentary. That photo is from another time. Why they have printed it now is anyone's guess, but I imagine that it was the closest thing they could get to Jade lying ill.

Jade is currently in hospital because she's probably suffering the ill effects of whatever treatment they are giving her. And they can be very unpleasant. You can sometimes feel as though you are dying and if she feels like that she must be very frightened and I can't honestly see what mileage she or anyone else could reap from having the story splayed all over the media. She needs peace and quiet in order to try and pull herself through, not a media circus blaring out a clarion call every time she has a stomach pain.

It was reported on my local news last week that smear tests in my area were down 15% in the last year - was discussing it with a friend in Wales and she told me the same had been reported there.

I can't find a link to my local story, but here is the one in Wales:

possibly not, but Liz Woolf is also quoted in that article saying: “Jade’s story made a lot more people seek information about cervical cancer.”

    Liz is:
    Head of CancerHelp UK
Liz has been a specialist oncology nurse for many years and is also qualified as a health visitor and district nurse, with a degree in community health. For the past 18 years she has specialised in providing information for people affected by cancer.

Personally, I would believe what Liz says.

People seeking information about their own health based on what they read about Jade must be good.

Because bottom line is - people are ghouls.
From Medieval times and the goriest of public executions, to the sensational freak shows only 100 years or so ago, to people taking photos of Heath Ledgers body going into the Emergency Vehicle.

The tabloids are just our freak show tent. They know their bottom line depends on tapping in to our baser nature, which they have done with varying success since the first wooden ones creaked into action.

And? Perhaps any celeb getting cancer highlights the issue for a few months and encourages people to get tested?

If she ends up dying because she (or MC) didn't give herself the time to recuperate and slow down, then there would be a certain irony to the fact that she lived by the media and ended up dying by the media!!

Indeed I might ;) - but at least we'd know the true story - objectively stated by someone who has not been "incentivised" and who hasn't a penny to gain from doing so.

If it happens, I'll be the first to put my hand up and admit I have been mistaken. :)

With all our combined experiences of hospital, whether for major surgery, or just having tests, have any of you ever seen a coffee table like that in a hospital room (complete with coffee ring stain - Jade would want to watch out for MRSA!)
    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/article2198464.ece

Is that a mock up of a room or a studio? Only, behind the bed, by the coffee table I can see what look like a pair of man's shoes and what on earth is that on the table, by the coffee stain. I swear that is like no hospital I have seen. I think a fund raising campaign to re-furnish the Royal Marsden may be in order.

oh dear lord you should write for the daily mail, what an over exaggeration, it was a rim mark left by a cup of tea shock horror the photographer could have had the tea in their hand and or anyone else in the room may have and then set it back down after, I don't see how you can all be so judgemental over such a non picture!

Yeh I see your point. You'd think we would have moved on by now.

I do believe though that the public is not getting what it wants but what the media decrees we should get. Who would honestly miss such sensational reports if they no longer appeared?

With respect "tiffany* some of us read the picture differently because it is at odds with what we know to be what Jade could expect from being treated as a private patient at a highly respected cancer hospital.

I'm afraid that picture looks like a very shabby, depressing poorly-equipped room which is more reminiscent of an interrogation room in a former Eastern bloc state.
