52 Pick Up blu ray
Finally a blu ray release for this very underrated little thriller.
Film is from 1982, with Roy Scheider, Ann Margaret, John Glover, Kelly Preston and Vanity.
One of the rare decent movies that came from Cannon films, the film is a kidnap drama with a few interesting twists.
Scheider's mistress is kidnapped by a bunch of low-life crooks led by Glover. But Scheider is not prepared to roll over and play their game, and instead moves to cleverly turn the tables on the kidnappers.
Thankfully this is not simply a case of him going after the kidnappers with all guns blazing, instead Scheider's methods and very subtle and clever.
It's the interesting plotting can well-rounded characters that make the movie what it is. Plus the acting, particularly from John Glover as the charismatic leader of the gang, and Clarence Williams III is extremely menacing as the quietly spoken Bobby Shy.
The blu ray is bare bones and I don't expect too much of an upgrade in pic and sound quality from an old, obscure 80's movie, but from the reviews I have seen it is a vast improvement over the current DVD, so that's good enough for me. Nice jazzy/synth score too.
Trailer here, not great quality though...
