Hi all, in preparation for the start of CofC 2014, I have decided to open up the new thread so we can start sorting out all the details.

I have updated the CofC page and it can all be seen here: http://dsfe.wikia.com/wiki/Champion_of_Champions_2014

Notice someone has put a link to each country NF at the top of the page, Cyprus is missing, I tried adding it but couldn't work out how to, so if someone in the know can do, that would be great. I will probably hand over page updating to AxG now as he normally deals with results.

Anyway, we are good to go now, so dylan if you are happy to start up tonight that would be grand, here is a reminder of the 4 batches of NFs.

Batch #1 - dylanpartyon

1. Aland Islands
2. Albania
3. Algeria
4. Andorra
5. Austria (2 qualify)
6. Azerbaijan
7. Belarus
8. Belgium
9. Bosnia & Herzegovina
10. Bulgaria (2 qualify)
11. Croatia
12. Cyprus
13. Czech Republic
14. Denmark
15. England (3 qualify)
16. Estonia (2 qualify)

Batch #2

17. Faroe Islands (2 qualify)
18. Finland
19. France
20. Germany (2 qualify)
21. Gotland (2 qualify)
22. Greece
23. Greenland
24. Hungary
25. Iceland
26. Iran
27. Ireland
28. Isle of Man
29. Israel (2 qualify)
30. Italy
31. Jersey (3 qualify)
32. Kazakhstan

Batch #3

33. Kosovo
34. Liechtenstein (2 qualify)
35. Lithuania
36. Luxembourg
37. Macedonia
38. Malta
39. Moldova
40. Monaco
41. Netherlands
42. Northern Ireland
43. Norway
44. Poland
45. Portugal (2 qualify)
46. Romania
47. Russia

Batch #4 - mikabv

48. San Marino
49. Scotland
50. Shetland Islands
51. Slovakia
52. Slovenia
53. Spain
54. Svalbard
55. Sweden
56. Switzerland
57. Transnistria
58. Turkey
59. Ukraine
60. Wales
61. Western Asia
62. Wildcard (2 qualify)

We have hosts for the 1st and 4th batch, avb you can take either number 2 or 3, I think Yugi was the other one offering to do a batch (please correct me if I am wrong). Whoever it is you can take the other one.

Me, Carlisle and Gwen will do a SF each, I guess we can sort that out closer to the time once we know dates, I will need to make sure I am hosting one where I can do results on a day off. Then Alexos will do the final. I will bring over the stats I have posted over in the other thread to here for all to see.

By the way, can anyone remember what the scoring system for the country NFs were? Also how many are we going to put through from the SFs to the final, in the first 2 years we took 10 through from each for a 30 song final, but last year it was just the top 8 for a 24 song final.

How do you guys think the timeline should be, would 3-4 days be enough for each NF, we could have:

    Batch 1 - 18th-22nd
    Batch 2 - 20th-24th
    Batch 3 - 22nd-26th
    Batch 4 - 24th-28th

That allows no results on xmas day, there are results on xmas eve and boxing day but they can be adjusted slightly if needs be.

    Semi 1 - 28th - Jan 1st
    Semi 2 - 29th - Jan 3rd
    Semi 3 - 31st - Jan 5th

    Final 5th-9th

That gets results done by the 9th, if Carlisle (or whoever hosts the first proper contest of the year wants the can open the thread start of Jan and allow sign ups, then the countries can all be handed out on the 9th and we can get straight on with contest 61.

Sometimes I see my whole life passing by with each CofC as it doesn't feel that long ago since the last one, but excited for this and thanks again Terry for all your work!

Hey guys just preping to post the first set. But I have noticed that Austria's Farewell Dear Ghost - Wake Up is no longer online. I can't seem to find anything other that this live version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn33DkDOYNI . Im gonna include this, and hope that one of us can find a version.

Also Sons & Lovers isnt on youtube anymore, but its on Vimeo so I'm linking to that, and putting an audio in the playlist...

Also yeah that timetable sounds good to me. And since no one has commented on it Terry, Im gonna do the votes as 5, 3, 2, 1 like last year, that alright??

So just to confirm as this is my first CofC, you vote 5-3-2-1 only even if there are more than 4 songs and you can vote for your own song?

That's fine, maybe open the day before, as I imagine the amount of people coming online xmas day (and even boxing day) will be less than usual.

I think it is still 5-3-2-1 even if there is more than 4 songs, and in CofC unlike the main contest, you can vote for your own song if you so wish. :)

That's cool, the 27th would work too, just looking for someone to take on batch 2 now.

I've calculated the results for the best of 60 editions run down, it will feature the top 3 across all 60 contests ranked in order of total percentage points scored from total points available, I can possibly begin that either tomorrow night or Saturday and run it over xmas/new year whilst this is going on (I will make a separate thread for it).

Also eagerly awaiting Alexos' little side task he has planned for us as well, when will we find out what it is?

    ~Alex's 2014 Ranking of the DSFE Countries~

We have the official country ranking of 2014 but this is missing some important information such as bias towards hilarious trainwreck songs that went out in the semi-finals and other controversial opinions. As such, here begins a rundown of my personal judgement of each of the countries that took part in 2014, ranked 90 - 1 which will run parallel to the usual fun and games of CofC. Feel free to either ignore or embrace it.

    Aland Islands
    Albania
    Algeria
    Andorra
    Armenia
    Austria
    Azerbaijan
    Azores
    Belarus
    Belgium
    Bosnia & Herzegovina
    Bulgaria
    China
    Corsica
    Crimea
    Croatia
    Cyprus
    Czech Republic
    Denmark
    Egypt
    England
    Estonia
    Faroe Islands
    Finland
    Flanders
    France
    Georgia
    Germany
    Gibraltar
    Gotland
    Greece
    Greenland
    Guernsey
    Hungary
    Iceland
    Iran
    Ireland
    Isle of Man
    Israel
    Italy
    Jersey
    Kaliningrad
    Kazakhstan
    Kosovo
    Kyrgyzstan
    Latvia
    Lebanon
    Liechtenstein
    Lithuania
    Luxembourg
    Macedonia
    Malta
    Moldova
    Monaco
    Montenegro
    Morocco
    Nagorno-Karabakh
    Netherlands
    North Africa
    Northern Cyprus
    Northern Ireland
    Norway
    Poland
    Portugal
    Romania
    Russia
    Saaremaa
    San Marino
    Scotland
    Serbia
    Shetland Islands
    Sicily
    Slovakia
    Slovenia
    South Holland
    Spain
    Svalbard
    Sweden
    Switzerland
    Transnistria
    Tunisia
    Turkey
    Turkmenistan
    Ukraine
    Uzbekistan
    Vatican City
    Vojvodina
    Wales
    Wallonia
    Western Asia

The methodology btw was giving each song a mark out of 10 with .5s included and then using Excel to find the average for each country. Countries with six or fewer songs have been penalised accordingly. In actuality my scoring system is probably flawed and unpredictable based upon how I'm feeling at any given moment, but you get the idea.

Please note this ranking will not take into account players or previous placement, just the songs themselves (although I will probs make reference to both) and I will post the subjective worst countries sometime soon!

    Reviews for Batch 1 - Part 1

    Aland Islands

Suvi T. is better than I remembered, quite a strong song to start off, Suvi's still as good as I remember, really like this one too. Eva and Manu are quite cute too so hard to choose between the three first. Jenni's song is completely pointless though, so that's out for sure.

    Albania

4 power ballads. I really like both Me Jeto and Dream Out Loud. Shiu Im is another good surprise as it's grown on me a lot since last. Still don't understand how Anemos Agapis placed so high though.

    Algeria

Quite a bit of variety here. People are lonely is still as brilliant (and creepy!) as last. Ma Liberté is pretty nice too, as is Dance the Pain Away. Bang Bang is a big disappointment though, I remembered it being far better than this...

    90. Kyrgyzstan

    Contributors: Cuishla

Only song: Aldadyn - Mirbek Atabekov

There are a few UTR countries that can only be judged on one song and unfortunately most of these don't have a brimming pool of artists from which to choose. So I feel a little bad to give Kyrgyzstan the RLOD based on their semi final hijack during Almaty. I have a slight post-contest appreciation of this video but I think I would enjoy it more if I understood Kyrgyz or even had a vague idea of what was going on. Sadly Kyrgyzstan's journey ends as tragically as Mirbek's quest for his runaway bride, apologies Cuishla

    89. China

    Contributors: phill363

    Only song: Overdose - Exo-M

I am not the best person to judge Chinese boybands as obv Exo-M have a tonne of fans and actually I did enjoy a few of their other songs that I just listened to :3 This is not one of them, although the chorus is not terrible but the lighting gave me a headache and there was nothing ridiculous enough to redeem it. Although can you imagine if China actually won DSFE? Everyone would go mental and quit imo and so it's probably just as well that we don't all share Carlisle's weakness for Asian men.

    88. Sicily

    Contributors: mikabv

Only song: Parla Con Me - Eros Ramazzotti

I huge a lot of appreciation for Italian music, but this one suffers from having both a boring video and song. Neither are actually painful but I don't get the whole texting thing? And there were no star characters to carry that narrative so unfortunately I found myself wanting to move on rather quickly. What's worse is that this SF exit destroyed Sicily's 100% Final record for all eternity. How could you, mika? :(

    87 remain!

To clarify the whole texting thing.... The song is called Parla Con Me (talk to me) and from what I understand, it wants to show how enclosed we are becoming in our modern society, always sitting with our devices, and all he wants to do is actually talk to someone.

Also, the song is not boring. :o:D

    Andorra

Puppeteer is clearly the best of the two Auryn songs. Pastora Soler's song is nice too, although some transitions I still find too abrupt, and Anael is just very meh in comparison to the rest.

    Austria

4 strong songs here, very different from each other too. I will always have a soft spot for the Como song, and I really like Bad Tattoo now as well. Conchita's song I'm getting a bit bored of even if it's very strong and Farewell Dear Ghost is good too, although it's a shame I had to go to ITunes to find it. Hard to choose here.

    Azerbaijan

A much weaker bunch here. I like both Laleh songs although they aren't her best, Timur Rodruguez is decent enough too, and Hedef is okay too, if not a bit too dramatic to my taste.

Well inside the top 100, success for Kyrgyzstan. It was more the video than the song that I entered but I was satisfied with having Kyrgyzstan in the semi final for only the third time ever :D.

I was surprised to find there were three other entries with a lower score than this from first round entries and tied with one of Icelands, although it was the lowest score of this year.

We should really have a battle of the winners too at some point.

It still makes me laugh remembering when you said my uzbek song beat yours before I knew that you were Kyrgyzstan... :D
