Yes, previously a player had to wait a year before they could play in a BDO event if they had played in the PDC. That has now gone, although I must admit I thought it was 6 months and not 12. Anyway, it means if say for arguments sake Mark Webster decided to try the BDO he can do so long as he just relinquishes his PDC card.

You mentioned in the other thread how Wayne Jones was struggling to make a living on the PDC Tour and presumably this change has been made to entice PDC players in his predicament back across to the BDO.

Well the vast majority of the BDO players have full time jobs and darts is a hobby, sort of a mirror of the majority of PDC players. So yes Jones could decide to give the BDO a whirl and get a "proper" job I suppose.
Taken a few bets this week on a fella called Brian Dawson for the BDO Worlds - local fella, been telling everyone he thinks he'll get to semis at least - currently 150/1. Don't know much about him missen but just passing on the info.:)

Would be very surprised if he makes it to the second round, and if he does he'll likely be against the reigning World Master.

How does the BDO continue to survive when all its best players (including the reigning champion) regularly defect to the PDC?
How does the BDO continue to survive when all its best players (including the reigning champion) regularly defect to the PDC?
Because there are tens of thousands of players on the BDO side and the strength in depth for other players to fill their shoes when they move on, despite what some of the narrow minded PDC fans think.
Look at Bunting, people were saying he would struggle in the PDC after switching, yet he won his second tournament, qualified for every TV event bar one, and has earned over £100k in his first year.

They don't so much defect as turn pro. Look at Scott Waites, former world champion and former GSOD winner, he still has a full time job. Darts to him is the hobby. Most of the BDO guys play darts for fun not for a living.

Because the BDO is much more than just the TV tournaments. It's national, county and local darts. It's still the governing body for darts in the UK, and through the WDF, the world. It sets the rules. And all PDC champions (Taylor, Bristow, Barney, Part, Webster etc) still count the titles they won over at the BDO as world championships.
