5 million for a live semi final? That just isn't good enough on a broadcaster like the BBC.
Just wondering where are the rules that says that. It was the highest audience of the night still remember.
I don't think they got any higher figures for previous theatre shows they did.
No matter how often you say this, it doesn't alter the fact the show will be back next year. Therefore, the viewing figures are worth the cost, which is cheaper per episode than BGT.
After Will's slip on last night's live show we can forget about the ratings being important because in his words "The Voice needs to find a superstar this series or its pointless coming back next year."
A change in judges wouldn't be a bad thing, they certainly aren't the most likeable bunch. BGT does indeed cost more but it also brings in a lot more revenue and profit for ITV than The Voice.
You can brush off the lack of competition but to me its key because its back to scheduling. It's naive to suggest it would have gotten more viewers because the battles and lives simply aren't that popular but consistent scheduling would really help it and it would do well to avoid BGT, it'd be better going up against Dancing on Ice
Looks good enough, don't think they deserve it, but not bad.
Scheduling, scheduling, scheduling should be the lesson to learn.
Unless they decide everyone tuned in to watch Leah and that the way they've done this series has been spot on, which wouldn't surprise me.
i can`t help but think this show would be seen in a better light on a different channel
next series at least 2 of the judges (i refuse to call them "coaches") needs replaces if not them all
It's worth pointing out that with many of these shows, the jump between the last show before the final, to the final is quite large - by 2-3m at best.
Last year's semi-final got 4m, but was hit by the weather. The final got 7 million. The Voice does not have much strong competition tomorrow night - Who Wants to be a Millionaire would have been considered strong a decade ago but not anymore. The weather doesn't look to be great either. I'm predicting at least an 8 million average, and if lucky, a 10 million peak.
Maybe it has already been mentioned but for the BBC it is not just total viewing figures but demography. The BBC have to ensure that across their broadcasting schedule they cater for the full range of interests within the British population. So they have some programmes for children, some for teenagers, some for young adults with various interests, families, single adults, and the older viewer. They also need to have a representative number of programmes for "minorities".

I think that's overpredicting a little. Last week it got 5.8m against arguably smaller competition on ITV so it won't gather many extra "there's nothing else on" viewers. Closer to 7m would be my estimate.
Also worth nothing that the semi-final last year was on much earlier (6:30pm) due to Eurovision. It was on in a later time slot this year.

Indeed. They already have the older demographics sewn up with their dramas and factual shows and The Voice was meant to be their flagship show for younger generations and families as a sort of competitor/alternative to The X Factor/Britain's Got Talent. I haven't seen many demographic breakdowns for the show but from what I know its performance among young adults and teens is pretty good and certainly warrant a renewal.
Having said that, I think they hoped for the show to be more of a phenomenon than it has been, like it is in America. But they only have themselves to blame for that.
So with the appointment of two new coaches and two completely new presenters, as well as the fact it's moving to January, I think it should fare better next year.

I'm not a fan of the voice, I like to know what's going on with it purely on the basis that it's a singing competition really. I'd say it could launch with maybe 6M?

But it should be doing better and I don't think anyone can deny that.

That is very disappointing because there was no competition on any other channel as far as I could see.

Don't forget that was the results part and that was bang on 3mil. So it's time shifted over a million which is not to bad.
Love how people keep saying this lol
Actually it was 3.9 million, not bang on 3 million. So in fact its timeshifted less that a million.
You can't just make up your own figures to suit your ideal timeshift.
