What I don't understand about Dan's video is what was the micro system tuned into? There wasn't a one network station in London.
There is a distribution network in LSq that feeds stations via FM and all you need is a connection to that (via Beling Lee connector). It carries (or it did when I left) all the London stations, both company ones and others, you can hear Gold on FM through it!There are spare slots that can be used for distribution of other non London stations.
Arn't they ever going to demolish/refurb these old ex-Capital, Choice & Gold studios?
I suppose they will, Capital was refurbed in late 2010 before the network was formed, Heart was last June and Classic FM was earlier this year.
I'd say Choice, Xfm, Gold and LBC will all get re-done , all the equipment will stay, they'll just get some ridiculously large LCD screens and a studio that changes colour.
Pity they don't have webcams, this was the last shot captured on Capital's webcam in the old studio.
Look at some of the guys Twitter accounts who work for Heart and you'll see the pictures of the studios. Digital high tec studios. All studios have been done out now. Smooth will get a new studios soon.
I remember going to the drink in the bar under the studios in Leicester square and DJ's used to present shows from there. That all went years ago.
Capital, Heart, Classic and Choice have been done now. Gold has had a small makeover but it's stopped short of the LEDs and flatscreen TVs. Not sure about LBC or XFM.
There's a couple of massive studios which are currently designated backups for 2-3 of the brands and uniquely have both Genesys and RCS installed in order to facilitate this. I imagine Smooth will move into one of these studios, albeit refurbished in the new style.
Don't each station just have hot seat change? So most only have one studio with offices? I guess there are back up's. It's not like Radio 2 when they need studio space for pre-records.

Aww. Does it have a 32" CRT with a Ceefax news banner burnt into the screen and a melted corner where the news guy left his ****? And one of those hi-tec thermal printers which does teletext pages?
It'd feel like working in radio when those songs were on first time round

Think most brands have two studios. Heart, Capital and Gold all do. I imagine if say, Capital, goes down they can always use, say, the spare Gold studio.
No of course not. The days or presenters having free choice are long gone.
Does this count for specialist DJs? I thought that they would have to show their setlist first to their producers before broadcasting the tracks on air?

They don't have as such specialist DJ's as they do on Radio 2. I think most DJ's have a lot of music knowledge, but these tight stations don't let them do much. It was good when Capital did 80's shows over a weekend a few years back, and most knew what they were on about. It be good when Global bring Smooth to Leicester Square, hopefully they don't destroy there specialist output.

Ah! So did they sell off the London studios? I assume?
Yes it did

Just before the rebrand to the rest of the Heart stations (March/April 2009) Global moved the one network hub to Leicester square.
Heart and Capital have now upgraded their studios:

Heart are the only ones left using RCS Master Control, maybe Classic fm (correct me if I'm wrong)
Yeah, obviously that studio is in London (Bramley road) as you can spot the "LBC" logo in the background of that video.
That is now the Gold studio.

Oh and it's Landseer House not Lancier House.
You can spot the studio in here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06HTidMs61s
Its small and all the desk faces the wall.
But in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mbg31i1uDZc
It says that it is now used for Xfm production
Is there not a spare studio beside Gold that Xfm use for pre-records of interviews?
Here it is:

Mind you, that applies to a lot of things in that there London. Greggs is very different.

Any pictures of the new Choice studio?
