11million peak for Man U v Real. very good.

But bitter sweet moment for Itv who will get a fraction of those ratings for the remainder of the tournament. BT sport are sniffing around ready to snatch away these cL rights from Itv for the next deal.

UEFA do not want the ECL to be 100% on subscription TV, as it would become less popular with sponsors and the public. at the moment it is one of the most popular tournament in the world and one of sports strongest brands, they are not giving up that for a few million quid from BT. sky might be worried though!!!!

Yes its likely that there will continue to be at least 1 FTA game per week. Which is probably all that itv want to air anyways. much more important is whether its 1st pick or 2nd pick

So today's summary is basically "Good rating but all future matches will be low, so this is bad, and then after that they will lose all football rights which will be even worse"

You can't make this stuff up!

Next week's Barca/ Milan game will be interesting to see how it rates. Perhaps then we will see that Bayern, PSG, Real Madrid and others aren't that bad raters. If they beat the UK teams they are better than the teams they beat. So if you want to watch top rate football, these are the games to watch.

Last season's Madrid-Munich semi final got 5.41 million according to BARB, plus another million in HD. So, the game next week should be in the vicinity, probably a little less.

Yes they'd be hoping for an average somewhere in the 4.5m to 5m vicinity for the full slot of that one, which should be a guide to the rest of the QF and SF games (add +1m for the QFs and +1.5M for the SFs). The final rating will depend on who is there, but the Wembley location will add to the draw.

Really bad ratings for Itv post 8pm yesterday, with about 2.5million for Food Glorious Food and Lightfields. Both shows lost a lot of viewers from last week.

Will Itv pull these two major flops from the schedule? 7 more weeks to go for FGF!! :D

Mayday's ratings are proof that you shouldn't run a drama series over 5 consecutive nights.

Two million switched off after the first episode and they never came back.

Its sad that at 9pm neither of the two biggest broadcasters could attract anymore then 7 million viewers

Mayday's ratings have increased two days on the trot, it has won its slot on two out of four occassions and has been the most watched 9pm drama the last two days.

They've increased by about 4 people, hardly much to shout about!

ITV didn't show a drama at 9pm on Tuesday so it wouldn't have been difficult for Mayday to be the most watched 9pm drama on that night. ;)

With some compelling acting performances by the likes of Arbeloa, Nani and Mourinho.

Chelsea losing against Steaue Bucharest and Newcastle not winning against their opponent. Could be a really bad week or two for Itv in the football with a clean slate of British teams being knocked out of Europe.

How sad, Samuel looking up the football results, not to see how his team is getting on but instead to see how they effect ITV's matches,

It's a good job BBC1 share the rights to the World Cup or else he'd be hoping that England would never qualify.

Both sides were away and it's a 2 leg round, so who is being a bit of a defeatist?

What's that got to do with ITV being in a ratings crisis? I will find it incredibly humorous if this ever makes it to a part 2.

Imagine if Samuel disliked Sky, he'd blow his mind trying to translate the entire premier league fixture list and the various permutations of results into bad news.

2-0 to spurs now , crisis talks at Stan and Doris' house soon.

If the British teams are knocked out, Itv will have to show foreign games which will get worse ratings.

Sky are nowhere as reliant on ratings as Itv because Sky's main income is from subscribers. Even if big teams are knocked out of Europe or do badly in Premier League, it doesn't matter that much because people at home suddenly aren't going to unsubscribe from their service. In contrast on Itv, if a British team goes out, a foreign game gets something like 3million instead of 5million+, so has a much bigger impact on their ratings and advertisers.

Speaking of whom, I talked to Stan yesterday about various things. The topic of Broadchurch came up and he said that although it was nice to look at, he doesnt think he can commit to 8 hours of this and he prefers something like Frost and Midsomer murders which is all done in an hour or two. This might come as a worry to Itv because Stan is part of what one would call the "heartland Itv drama" audience, and if this audience didnt like Broadchurch as much as the usual crime shows, it could spell trouble for it in the ratings next week against Shetland which very much looks like a typical Itv crime drama but on the BBC. My prediction next week is for a Shetland win over Broadchurch. Chris Chibnall said on Media Show yesterday Broadchurch needs to be getting 6million every week, I'll be interested to see if it manages that across 8 episodes...

I swear he is just a character. ITV shouldn't be reliant on football anyway.

They should be reliant on BGT :D
