The reason I say north west is because of dab , and manchester for fm. Does anyone know when the station starts testing on 106.1 how far will it get out as with city talk on 105.9 which I can easily get when I drive into manchester.

Will city talk just be swamped out with Rock radio starting soon say If im driving on the m6 at junction 21turn off for bolton etc, or will there be co channel inerference , whats the format for the station is it true its 50 percent talk and music, if this is the case will this work, or will gmg go for a format change after so long to all music format.

Does anyone knowwho any of the presenters on the station yet.

They are not permitted to alter the format at all in the first two years, after that Ofcom may allow them to tweak the music/speech ratio slightly. They allowed Kerrang WM to do it with their breakfast show.

The speech/music quota is larger at breakfast & drive (I think it's 60:40 in favour of speech), while daytime is mainly music (with some speech features) and after 7pm it's a music station.

As for the reception issues, you should get Rock Radio clearly in Bolton, but there will be an area around the Merseyside/GM border where there could be problems with clear reception of either Rock or City Talk.

Rock Radio 106.1 launches on 6th May, so tests should begin in mid-April.

Highly likely, a Manchester Radio station playing Rock Music, right up Mike's street and as he's leaving Gold this month too I would think that he may get Breakfast at Rock Radio Manchester.

The station won its licence as Rock Talk - is there going to be any actual talk on the station apart from chit-chat between discs?

Been told that the tests start next monday, I looked at the rock radio website and its says you can get vip tickets for their opening , but they would not let me have any , i guess this must be for the advertisers, but they did say next monday, so we might hear a few test tones later this week.

Or why dont they get in touch with digi 1 and hire the Birdsong. :D

It should replace REAL on MXR North West soon as well. I can't wait. That's one less automated jukebox clogging DAB.

I'll be interested to see if it affects City Talk's reception over towards the Warrington area as 0.2Mhz between 105.9 and 106.1 isn't really a very big gap. My E5 should separate them but I think City Talk will drown Rock Talk out on everything else

Is Rock radio less powerful then city talk, is city talks power the same as radio city then, Will Rock radio be nulled towards liverpool more than manchesters xfm then ?

I would think so. I think XFM has its null up towards the Burnley area in the North as Radio 1 from Pendle Forest is on 97.8 so to the South and West it's pretty much the same as galaxy whereas i think Rock talk might be a bit weaker to the south and west of Manchester to protect City Talk and Dee 106.3

Here near to Sandbach I can get City talk ok fades a bit thou, wonder if rock radio will bleed all over it , hope Rock radio carries dab switching as well.

The thing I fear most is that I hope it dosent have a small 300 song playlist, when Planet Rock did that loads of people complaned about it, just hope gmg know this, and dont treat it like a chart station, ie small playlist.

It'll probably be pretty similar to the Glasgow station I would think:

These are the Top 10 most played Artists over the past 7 days on 96.3 Rock Radio.

    1. AC/DC
    2. Rolling Stones
    3. Led Zeppelin
    4. Queen
    5. Who
    6. Bon Jovi
    7. Aerosmith
    8. U2
    9. Thin Lizzy
    10. Van Halen

So it's confirmed Sweeney will be doing drivetime, which will probably include 60% speech for part of the show at least:

If it's like the new North-East one it won't be quite as loud-they seem to play some softer stuff-you can check the last ten usually on the website.

    Surely not! :eek::rolleyes:

Even non-geek mates of mine weren't slow in pointing out that there seemed to be an AC/DC track every single hour, certainly at the start.

Blank carrier on 106.1FM. No RDS.

The website states that testing would commence from midday today.

    DAB unaffected, Real still broadcasting.

There were a few switching breaks, but the carrier switched off at about 4.50pm. I've not heard it back since.

May I ask what switching breaks are , the engineers must leave off at 5pm to go home hence why switched off at 4-50pm :D:
On a serious note thou are you in Manchester to hear a blank carrier, Im near to sandbach, will see what reception is like when I hear something on 106.1 .

Looked on the rock radio website , nothing on the Manchester page about testing now.

Anyone going to the Cathedral Gardens in Manchetser on May 5th, is it a live concert or just an outside ob, wonder who will switch be the first voice on the station, does anyone need to guess.:D

Intermittent switching of the transmitter, so it sounds like an interruption of only a second or two where the static reappears, before the carrier is back.

I was in Altrincham at the time I heard the carrier.

    I can see it...
To get a taste of the sound of Manchester's FIRST Classic Rock station, tune into 106.1fm from midday on Monday April 7th.

Sweeney will continue to host two specialist shows on Gold, Sweeney's 60's Classics and At The Hop, both on Sunday Evenings.
