and this is the one I ordered today which I hope is correct

Either would do the job - as long as you have the correct lead for them.

As I said before, and Nigel has confirmed, the first one would have been just the ticket for you, if you had a 3.5mm lead.

Both those adaptors are giving you the same line level audio output and would be equally suitable for headphones or speakers with independent volume controls.

But it matters not, as long as whatever you end up with does the job. :)

Not suitable for headphones, it's a line level output, so requires an amplifier to feed either speakers or headphones - amplified PC speakers would plug straight in,

If the first one didn't work I can't see the second one working any better.

I can't believe this thread has generated 54 posts for such a trivial question.

The OP needs a line level analogue audio output, the so called quality of the scart adaptor is irrelevant. While it's described as line level the audio output in terms of the scart connections is close to 1V peak to peak and works at audio frequencies, in terms of the video connections it's so robust a piece of bell wire would work. The amplifier is only needed because the connection cannot deliver the power required to drive a loudspeaker. The el cheapo scart adaptor obtainable from any DIY store will work as well as anything else.

I think the OP somehow got it into their head that the first scart adaptor they ordered was wrong for some reason, and ordered a second one.
I don't think they even tried out the first one, because they don't have a suitable lead for it.

Thank you guys, it works! Only prob is will have to ditch the new speakers and amp and buy what I wanted to originally but the shop didn't have that make in (Logitech) 'cos there is no balance on them, so can't increase the base if I wanted to. Why didn't I just go to another shop and get the same ones I have on my other TV.

Also can't mute or change volume with TV remote control, so have to get up and walk across the room.

Went into the control panel thinggy, looked at Scart, doesn't say anything except nio signal and went in to AV, again nothing is recognised.

But at least thanks to you guys, I have added speakers and will have to save up and upgrade to Logitech speakers and amp.

The sound output through the scart adaptor is at a fixed level, so you can't change it with the TV remote.

You can buy some speaker systems with their own remote controls though.
    For example.

You should get surround sound providing you are connected via phonos/digital output from the TV to the sound system, there may also be a function on the remote that needs to be selected - not familiar with Bose products, but generally there's a button or buttons on the remote that relate to the various soundtracks, ie stereo, dolby pro logic dd5.1 etc. Might also be worth checking the setup menu to see if a sound format has been set as a default setting.

You will need some means to either decode the surround sound output of those broadcasts that use it or to synthesise surround sound from the majority of channels that only use stereo.

A simple amplifier and speaker set-up won't do the job. And as far as I can see the Boston Acoustics are just speakers, no amplification so pretty much no use with your TV as it has no means to drive speakers by itself.

You would need an AV amp/receiver and a 5.1 speaker package to get decent surround sound. A decent starting point would be something like this

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/1-box-home-cinema-systems/yamaha/yht196/yama-yht196

Or a bit further up the price chain

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/onkyo/hts3505/onky-hts3505-blk

Either of those would do the job perfectly well. Plus you can hook up the DVD player to get surround sound from that as well. Or if you decide to upgrade to Blu-Ray it will do for that as well.
