I expect most people interested have seen this:

Is the bit in bold a bit of a threat?

Also, the lie that they supported the introduction of civil partnerships is repeated:

the bit in bold does read like a threat and they are agin lying for Jesus
marriage isn't a sign of a healthy society etc, but stuff like equality, tolerance and maturity are, if you have to lie or fear-monger to achieve your goal like what the bigoted do then they are on the losing side as time will show

Yes, I don't think they can unilaterally withdraw from the duty to marry people in their parish, as they seem to be hinting.

They could. Let's see if they do though. My guess is they will keep whatever power they have and if they took out their bigotry on straight people, most likely they would just see them as the big stupid babies they are.

Far from proving that gay marriage destroys straight marriage, it would at least make it equal and straight people would know how it feels to some extent, but not to be denied something because of your sexuality unfortunately.

...is this just is a devious, desperate attempt by shamelessly self-interested moral authoritarians to impose their own limited and unshared view of human relationships on everyone else by threats, scare-mongering and hyperbolic raising of the stakes to distract from the fact that this debate isn’t – or shouldn’t be – about them but about the civil right of two people in love to have their relationship recognised by their friends and family and the law in the country where they live?

    I'd say, yes!

Yes, they can. They only have that duty because they're the established church.

    Me too
Which is one of the many reasons why I never agree with debating equality or putting it to a vote

That would suck for them wouldn't it, lol.
I'm not sure it's a "duty" any more than it is a source of income and a way to actually contribute to a society that doesn't want them anymore. If they stopped being the state church that would make them equal to other churches, and then there's the house of lords and the queen business.
It would be a massive case of cutting off their nose to spite their faces. I don't think even they would be that petty.

If I was in charge I would call their bluff.

They would have to have the consent of Parliament to disestablish so it wouldn't be unilateral.

They'd be more than happy to disestablish such a thorn in their side. The Church of England is a liberal, rather than conservative, presense in the public discourse, and most of the people who want to nobble it over this issue are "money talks" gay Tories.
