BBC coverage of pedophile doctor

I have no sympathy at all for this sick individual but does anyone think the BBC coverage of this and other cases is a bit, shall we say, "tabloid" in tone.

For instance the BBC report says "His greatest claim to fame was that he once met the Queen. Now he will be detained at her pleasure for a very long time."

It just seems like something The Sun would write in their editorial. Or maybe it's because the BBC has a lot of foreign readers so they have to state things in very simple terms?

    The BBC has been wallowing in paedophilia all day. It is child porn porn for the masses.

    With a twenty-two year jail sentence, he won't be out for at least eleven years, which is about the average you serve for murder.

    Yes, I did wonder about that, screwy sentencing, maybe it's the trust thing, being a Doctor and all, a professional learned man satisfying his evil lust.

    I didn't think ANY vulnerable person was allowed to be examined by a health professional without a nurse or family member present.

    I think the whole case is appalling, how the BBC reports it is so far from being the issue it didnt even cross my mind they might be doing it wrong. This is a highly trusted specialist Doctor, abusing patients in the modern day setting, its hard to picture how it could be worse.

    Same for other news services too, eh?

    Or are you just trying to single out the BBC - and why?

    Apparently some people can't separate the reporting of an issue with the issue itself.

    The report is rather lurid. If it were read out it would work as a CH5 narration.

    It seemed he'd get off just on looking and had a rather large cache of CP and if his job required him to examine intimite areas as part of his duties then what complaint could there be technically as its part of his job so long as he didn't do anything untoward at the time

    Easy question mate. Because I pay for the BBC as do we all. That's why. The BBC should not peddle child abuse and child porn as entertainment.

    Where in hells name do you get the idea that the beeb has "peddled" this story as entertainment?.

    What they have done is spread this story as wide as they can, which is what the police want as they are asking for more victims to come forward.

    Not sure about that. The starting point for murder (adults) is a 15 year minimum term.

    http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/sentencing_-_mandatory_life_sentences_in_murder_cases/#an04

    Starting Points
    Schedule 21 sets out the basic starting points.

    a) For adults aged 21 years old and over there are 4 starting points:

    a whole life order;
    30 years;
    25 years (effective from 2 March 2010); and
    15 years.

    b) For 18 - 20 year olds there are three starting points:

    30 years;
    25 years (effective from 2 March 2010); and
    15 years.
    c) For youths there is one 12-year starting point.

    I agree the BBC shouldn't use tabloid style analogies but surely they aren't going as far as you say?
