Hi,

Just got a phone call from virgin telling me that my broadband would be doubling in the next few months but also offering a free TiVo and free moving of my V+ box, no installation cost as well.

My monthly payment staying the same

So it's booked for this Friday.

Are they getting rid of the V+ boxes, is this why I am getting a TiVo.

Yes. At least some of them; I gather the older boxes can't cope with a new(ish) compression format they want to use.

    ...free TiVo...

What does "free TiVo" mean? Are you saying that you will not have to pay the extra £3 or £5 per month for the TiVo service? Or are you just saying that there is no installation charge?

    No charge for the box

    No installation charge

My monthly bill is staying the same.

I had the same call last Friday and the installation has been done to today. I'm very happy that I have an improved service at no extra cost. An added bonus is now having HD Movies and Sport as well.

You cannot get all of the Sports channels in HD, that is only available via Sky

Ok should have said Sky Sports 1 and 2 in HD. Other bonus was that he installed a 1TB box.

So you are not paying anything for the 1TB box ?

For a 1TB box i would find that hard to believe.

Yeah something to do with MPEG4 compression I think. Virgin broadcasts in MPEG2 I believe as even though the Tivo and V+ boxes are MPEG4 compatible, the older (SA is it?) boxes are not. Shame as it means better compression meaning you would use less storage space when recording stuff. Bring it on...

Well I'm not telling fibs...lol. The engineer started to instal a 500mg box then said it was supposed to be a 1TB and went out to the van and changed it. That's all I know. When the woman phoned up she didnt mention which box it would be so I wasnt expecting the larger version.
If they want to charge me for it they will taking it away again....lol

I got the Tivo upgrade to 1TB yesterday also new broadband hub to upgrade from 50 to 100mb. This was all free and also got a further loyalty discount of £5.31 per month so end up paying less. This was after a call last week from Virgin offering the upgrades as part of VIP Collection. They say the broadband speed will increase to 100mb within a couple of days but I did not believe my area had been done yet.

Had the phone call last Friday, got it all done today.
Been a VIP customer since day one.
Nice lady said it was because I was a loyal customer.
Had top Tivo,100 meg, sport and film channels HD.
Told me it would be cheaper because new contract starts today so no increase for at least ayear.
    Great service.

If you don't mind me asking, how much are you now paying for that package?
