    Just out of curiousity would the HD on the old systems connect to the new slim consoles.

    Assuming you mean hard drive then yes they all use the same. However the PS3 would wanna format it if you put another hard drive in it.

    My 40GB PS3 lasted about two years before the BD drive crapped out. I had it repaired, and it eventually suffered the YLOD about a year later.

    When my 40GB PS3 BD drive failed last year I enquired about repairing the drive in a local store I was told it would be better to just replace the console now as there was a high possibility of suffering the YLOD. I'm now the owner of a PS3 slim.
