The Mad Cat Owners - idle chat thread!

Hi guys, following my thread about Ella and Effie's birthday-homeday this week, I mentioned a cat chat thread where we can just ramble about those things our cats do, that do not warrant a thread of their own.

You know those things that only other cat owners would smile at or understand.

I'll start it off with the weird things my two do;

Effie is probably not a cat; she is something that looks like a cat but she is SO not agile. if she jumps ANYWHERE in the house, you think that the roof is coming down. She can fall off the couch when trying to jump and she will leap into the air for no reason!

Ella is the most vocal cat I have ever encountered so much sop that you you are on the phone, she cries and taps you until you put the mouthpiece to her and then she talks.
Not good when I was working at home one day and I had to explain to one of my clienta why Ella was wailing and why it would be good for them to speak !

When I had a cat, many years ago, he was a house cat and therefore had a litter tray. However he never really liked using it and instead would squat over the bath plughole and pee straight down!! It was actually quite handy as all we had to do with spray the shower head round it to clean it.

He would also sleep in the bathroom sink.

love this thread and Ella and Effie are SOOOO cute.

I have 5 cats but my eldest girl did something today that she has never ever done but it was very cute. I'd settled on the sofa for a nap using a cushion under my head that she usually sleeps on. Naughty mummy!!! My cassie, got herself in the space between the arm of the sofa and me, then gently tapped me on the cheek to get me to budge over so she could have cushion AND the space. She did this a couple of times before I relented - she got comfortable and I ended up napping in a less comfortable position. Talk about rule the house!

    How funny!! Bless Toby!
my partner is studying at the mo. and has loads of pens and highlighters waiting to be used but can never find them. I was getting the blame at first but effie keeps running off with the pens!

    What a GREAT thread!

My 18 month old cat Toots has just found a new snoozing place.....on top of my wardrobe! There is an old duvet there and she LOVES it!

Trouble is, she cant get up there by herself so she's learnt to sit at the bottom, stare at the top and miow! I have now learnt what this means. She then spends many an hour treading/sleeping on the duvet.

When its time to come down she can jump down herself (although the first few times I must admit I took her down myself cos I thought it was WAY too high for her jump...silly me!)

And the other thing I LOVE is when I come home from work, she'll come running up to me and make these chirping/tweeting noises as if to say "at last...welcome home"

They are so cute arent they!

My cat Tod NEVER makes a sound. He opens his mouth, but he never ever miaows.

I wish I could say the same for the cat that turned up here last week. He walked into the shop at half 5 large as life, strutting around as if he owned the place. Then he came into the house, wasn't put off by the dog at all. He then decided to sit on the bedroom windowsill until half 6am whining and scratching at the window. Needless to say, we didn't get any sleep at all that night.

I think I qualify as a mad cat owner :D although having said that, sometimes I do they let me think that I own them, just for fun :D because I reckon really its the other way round!

Alfie is a total sweetheart. Very snuggly, purry, loves to find somewhere warm and cuddle up - he loves a furry dressing gowned lap in the evenings. He looks a bit like Felix off the adverts.

Chester is part bengal and would make a good friend for the OP's cat Ella, he's extremely vocal and likes to have a conversation with you. He's a real fat cat too - he loves his grub and will eat and eat.

Mojo is my little enforced manx cat. I say enforced because he didn't have a choice in the matter, poor love. He came off worse with an argument with a car and damaged his nerves in his tail and had to have it removed. He's only just started going back out since his operation last year and his whole personality has changed. He used to be so bold and curious, now he is more nervous and isn't as affectionate as he used to be. I'm hoping with time he might settle back into his old character more.

Its great hearing about everyones cats!

Our house has recently been 'done up' as a result of the 2007 floods. We moved back in Jan 09 - so we were out of the house for almost 2 years.

For our Jenny it was like she had never left - she was so happy to be home again, except for having to regain her territory outside.

Inside though - new sofa, she thought, well must try every angle on here; new windows and sills, more room for her to survey her dominion; new bedding (now covered in black hair daily) is more bouncy so every bed has to be tested; new mat in hallway is perfect scratching tool; new silk effect cushions are now hers and hers alone!

Basically, cos she was upset by the move into rented accommodation where she could not go out unaccompanied (busy roads) and because she has been unwell off and on with a suspected tumour - me and hubby say she can do as she wants, sleep where she wants and generally run rings around us. We wouldn't have it any other way.

I'll say!! Funny, but since we moved back this suspected tumour has not bothered her. She had an MRI - and the vet and another specialist both were 99% sure she has a tumour at the base of her spine. When we were in the rented house she suffered chronic pain - but since returning home - nothing. She is thriving - new lease of life eh!

Maybe she's just content in being in her own home and surroundings. Its like she's come home and she's now happier.

All in all its good news as she's a much happier cat I'm guessing!

Years ago I had a cat called Zoe but my mum, for some weird reason, called her Toots.....she would ring up and say "hows Toots" and I would be like "Mum, her name is Zoe".....

Fast forward 10 years and I got another cat and just had to call it Toots!

Jenny is a rescue puss - so was already named by the rescue centre. But we were drawn to her for 2 reasons:
    1. She threw herself at us!
    2. Her name began with a 'J' - our previous 2 babies were Jeremy and Jimmy, so it seemed like fate.

I can't remember why I called my oldest cat Cassie - just like the name I guess. Casper was named by my husband. His brother Jazz was named by me and again no idea why I called him that, just liked it. Teddy was named after Teddy Sheringham (footballer) by my husband and we jointly agreed on Tinkerbelle for the youngest.

Sadly when we split up (husband and I) I'll be leaving Teddy and Tinkerbelle with him but we've decided not to split the brothers up, so I'll have Cassie, Casper and Jazz. He'll have Teddy and Tinkerbelle

Alfie's name was just because I liked it!

Chester is named for Chester Bennington from Linkin Park....

Mojo - well I was lucky enough to see him being born, and he was absolutely our little bit of black magic, so it seemed appropriate somehow!

I don't know where I came up with Smudge for my boy (he is currently known as "Wudglewudge") and Pixie was named by my son after Pixie Lott as she is "well fit" (Pixie is currently known as "Baby Pie")
