Are we are talking about a specific track that made an ingenious impact on the emotional state or a collection of tracks that make up the game?

If it's the overall soundtrack then, I say,

Super Mario Bros. for the entire 8 bit era
Resident Evil 1 & 2 for the entire CD era and beyond are my absolute favorites! :)

Well when I started the thread, I did have specific individual tracks in mind, the ones that only play in 1 scene (so the ones I posted in my OP as examples).

But it's always worth discussing the merits of entire soundtracks too. For me, no game has a better overall soundtrack than the Phoenix Wright original trilogy. Everything is spot on. :)

Actually, I love to talk about individual tracks as you have, but I don't have the time right now to go into detail! :)

But as far as my top 5 soundtracks are concerned it is:

    Super Mario Bros.
    ICO
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Metal Gear Solid 2
    Resident Evil 2

I especially think the top 4 - is just absolutely perfect to suit the entire games as a whole.

Resident Evil has some of the best music in a horror game ever, but neither game soundtracks are perfect; so I just put in RE 2, since I feel it captures the mood of the franchise the best.

I have various favourites throughout the years. Some more for nostalgic purposes :)

Pretty much any Lemmings level! (SNES)
Starwing and Lylat Wars (SNES and N64)
Diddy Kong Racing (N64) particularly the space tracks
    Mega Man 2 (NES)
Another shout for Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
Goldeneye (N64) Every piece of music in that game is a thing of beauty :)

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies - Phantom - Unknown

Wonderful, just wonderful. A perfect example of why the Ace Attorney series has the best overall soundtrack for me, hands down. Though it's really the context that makes this so special. It comes at the time where things are getting really tense and dramatic, and the guitar kicks in just as a witness is making a HUGE reveal. I wouldn't suggest looking further into it in terms of when it plays in the game if you don't want to be spoilered, but man is it kickass!

You can't beat the Assassins Creed 2 Soundtrack (thats the full 1hr 54mins version that I posted - but the first 10 minutes is the best!)- brings me out in goose bumps EVERY time!

Not really a soundtrack but the music used here (from the DiCaprio film Inception) for this Assassins Creed 3 trailer is AWESOME (watch the trailer with the music for full effect):

Hotline Miami 2 has kicked up quite a bit of awesome music, the track that plays in the Subway "Palmetto Station" is just amazing, especially for me when I seemed to time it well enough to take out the last goon and not be seen to get the "DEAD SILENT" Achievement the song usually ends in the same place but instead I got the scratch style track ending echo.
