Dog shit or bubble gum on your shoes can ruin light carpets.

Some insist that you do, some don't - including Muslims.

I have a stout mat, and sturdy carpets and never expect people to take their shoes off.

    Muddy wellies though, yes.

I wore an AirCast for years and it would stop me going to certain peoples houses. They would always say 'we don't mean you' but then spend the whole time staring at their carpets for stains.

Only muslims ask people to take shoes off inside? That's a new one.

My house my rules. Shoes are for outside and I don't want dirt from outside trodden into my carpets. Most people don't have a problem with taking their shoes off.

    What do you mean?

I posted earlier in the thread. I wore an AirCast (which you can't remove). Cue the overly houseproud having kittens at the thought of their carpets while outwardly trying to kid me they were fine with it.

For me I think their house, their rules. So if they wish for me to remove my shoes upon entering the house I will - there has been an awkward moment if I wore holey socks but still I follow their rules.

I am not a fan of smoking so if anyone wishes to smoke I insist they do it outside and away from the door, I would expect people to follow this rule so I can't really complain if they ask me to then follow their rules in their house can I.

I also know someone in a flat with wooden floors who insists on removing shoes because it can disturb their neighbours for me this is very considerate and prefer more people to be like this rather than the opposite.

Holes in their socks or perhaps stripy socks they dare not let anyone else see.
