Is fitness the new fashion? Do you talk about it with your girlfriends?

I just read this article and I hadn't realised it before but it might actually be true.

I lost almost 4 stone in the last year (I never believed it was possible!) and have become rather obsessed with all things fitness and diet.

My friends have too and last night, as one of my pals and I caught up over a cuppa we ended up spending most of the hour talking about her new spin class vs our old Zumba class and the possibility of starting a kettle bells one.

The cuppa of course did not include the biscuits and buns we would have previously enjoyed....how things change.

Is this just me, or are we all becoming a bit more health and fitness conscious?

The writer of the article above makes some really good points.....

It's always been around, in the 70s we called it Keep Fit.

Nah my crew are too busy gorging on curries and knocking back ale, to care about fitness. Some of them do go to the gym and stuff but it's not talked about.

Not really. A couple of my friends do Zumba, spinning ect but thankfully they don't bore the rest of us with it.

We don't really talk about fashion either, are we strange?

    Nope.

I can't say I've ever entered a discussion about fashion, maybe that's just me because nothing would bore me more. I don't discuss fitness with friends either, they might say that they're on a diet, I wish them luck and that's the end of it.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Exercise increases your metabolism, so you can enjoy yourself more guilt free.

I ate all kinds of crap and drunk loads of booze but because i had an exercise regime i actually lost weight.

I do not have the exercise regime anymore, so you can imagine the results:D:D

Plenty of men do that too! I used to love going out on the town partying with the other lads from the gym.

Yes! I'm exactly like that, talk about Different classes I've tried and how they work, what to wear, etc - much more than we talk about fashion. Being fit does help us look good in fashion though... I understand the people who say that they wouldn't bore someone because people can get bored and switch off but they bore me about the bloody Olympics....

I've had the same gym routine for the past five years, so nothing really to talk about with friends.

In the 80s it was Aerobics.

To be honest I still think we're a nation of exercise-avoiding fatties in general.

I talk about it all the time. :o Although sport rather than fitness as such. But only because I love the sport I do so much and I love training so much.

A lot of my friends are from the same sport though, one started going because she came along with me once, and my best friend and I go jogging together or swimming etc (although she has been ill for a few months now). So it becomes part of socialising as well as just fitness.

But I wouldn't talk about it to people who really weren't interested. Besides my dad and my brother, who will put up with it. :D

Really no. I can hardly imagine two duller topics. I do have a couple of friends who update everyone on facebook at almost daily intervals about how far they have run and in what time, and fewer and fewer people can stand reading this dreadful stuff.

Swapping fitness stories with other equally obsessed friends is fine, but to suppose that the population at large will be interested would be delusional.

I spend more time talking about my training online than I do with my partner.
