    Not at all.

The "chart buying audience" aren't a completely different type of person. I mean, it takes about 100 000 singles sold to get to number 1. If Sam B or Nicholas were to get 4 000 000 million votes and win, i'm pretty sure at least 100 000 of them would buy the single.

That's the thing though, if we assume the winner receives a million votes in the final, then why doesn't their single sell a million in the first week. I don't know what the highest selling first week sales are for the winner, but I doubt it's a million copies. You said in a previous post that it is rubbish that people who vote don't buy, yet here your saying that at least 100,000 of 4 million will buy, when as you said everyone who votes should buy.

The whole 'anti-Cowell' campaign now makes me want the XF winner to get to number 1 ! It may be predictable - or is it? - but at least it's a 'proper' song that people are buying because they actually like it and/ or the singer, as opposed to a novelty record that people are buying as some sort of mis-guided protest against what they perceive to be Cowell 'owning' the Christmas number 1 (whereas Facebook owning it is apparently completely different).

This years song isnt anti cowell protest, its just ad/dc fans celebrating 40 years of ac/dc and there supporting the male testicular cancer charity too.

Any male cancer charity gets my backing and its a great song too.

Ok, well I wasn't thinking of any particular one. I only find out what any year's songs are if I read about them on DS. I seem to recall someone starting a thread recently about a Monty Python campaign.

I'm so bored of the X Factor winner's song always being a cover... and the protest songs that compete with it always being old songs/covers as well.

Even the charity songs that have got there in recent years have been old songs... Band Aid 30 in 2014? FGS, show a bit of imagination and write something new?

It's like we never get any *new* songs to give each successive Christmas its own identity... you think of Christmas 1994, for example, and you think of 'Stay Another Day'... each Christmas, the Spice Girls released an entirely new song, and when I hear any of them, I'm taken back to that particular time in my mind.

Cover versions and revivals of old songs have taken this away, all the Christmasses merge into one big mush of anonymous memories. That's the pity.

    Not this s**t again

Are people really that bothered what song happens to be #1 at christmas? The whole idea that getting a protest track to #1 is proving some sort of point is ridiculous, how sad that people would purchase a track they don't even want. Utterly laughable. The X Factor single will still sell tons of copies and still make Syco a fortune. Get over it.

Hmmm..what would you do if we dont "get over it"?......not much really, seeing as its a free country and all that. (supposedly)

The X Factor brigade has only had 1 Christmas Number 1 since 2009. You had Rage Against the Machine in 09 then Matt Cardle in 10, since then it has been charity singles, the Miltary Wives with Wherever you are in 2011 and then the Liverpool Collective with He Ain't Heavy last year.

Unfortunately this year, the final of X Factor leaves just one week before the Christmas number 1 announced so potentially it could be another X Factor Christmas number 1. Personally, I use to love the variety you use to get with the Christmas number 1, since 1990 you had proper Christmas songs like Saviours Day and Band Aid 20, "classic" tunes like I Will Always Love You and 2 Become 1 and novelty tracks like Mr Blobby and Bob The Builder. These days when you get X Factor every year, it takes the fun out of it and becomes the Boredom factor.

People complained when the Spice Girls had the Christmas number one three years running, but those are all top quality pop songs so evocative of their times... I still like to hear them, like little time machines, they were three of the four songs they had that I liked (Viva Forever being the other) and I wish we had that quality of original music topping the charts this year.

Leona Lewis' song is increasing on iTunes steadily. Could be number 1 on iTunes by tonight as she been gaining on Avicii and Lily all day!

Could she actually beat the X Factor single? :O

That would be quite funny actually! :D

It wouldn't be an artificial number one, marshalled by an internet campaign - people are buying this because it's a nice new Christmassy song, it's exactly what people have been crying out for for years.

Good luck to her! It doesn't matter if it's on Syco either, it's giving Christmas 2013 an identity of its own, rather than having to borrow the Christmasses of 1984 or of 1973 via Wham or Slade.

Well, I never watch, but I've heard people say that this is the least inspiring X Factor final line-up since it started - that's from people who always watch the show!

So if these people don't like the winner, and it's competing against a new festive song that seems to make everyone smile, it's not a foregone conclusion.

But if X Factor wins none-the-less, with a dire cover version of some little-known indie track, it will be a blow to the element of the charts truly reflecting the national musical mood. It'll be like if Man United still end up winning the Premier League in May!

I would really like the Leona Lewis Christmas song One More Sleep to get the Christmas number one. It would be so ironic a previous X Factor winner stopping the current X Factor winner from getting to number one! And with an original Christmas song too. When did that last happen? Around 25 years ago with Mistletoe And Wine I think. Since then Cliff's other festive song Saviours day was 1990 number one but that doesnt mention Christmas in the lyrics. Since then only BAnd Aid 20 in 2004. I know Mr Blobby and Stay Another Day had a festive feel to them but even they are nearly 20 years ago.

Sam Bailey's winners single is Skyscraper so if she wins I'd rather everyone get behind the original and get Demi Lovato to number 1 instead. :p

No ones mentioned Altern 8 yet http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/altern-8-why-we-should-be-the-2013-christmas-number-1-2664/

I want them to bag the no1 slot, I know rave music is an acquired taste and a lot of people on here moan about it but it would be something different for a change :) Ive just bought their single Activ8 which is on sale today on iTunes :)

    Top One
    Nice One
    Get Sorted!
