Is it just me or are butchers getting dear?

I paid £5 the other week for half a pound of steak links & half a pound of pork links.

I then paid over £7 for 5 beef olives yesterday.

Maybe its just the butchers I go to?

It's not just you - when I went shopping it used to be the Butcher first then the bank - now it is the ATM first.

I didn't think they were still allowed to sell stuff by the pound or half pound.

I pay £7 near enough for 6 beef olives.
    12 beef links £3.11
    12 pork links £3.24

All groceries have lept in price.

Meat is expensive and if you want good meat then a butcher is the place to go.

It is expensive but the quality is often better than the supermarkets.

You get what you pay for I guess. My local butcher is excellent but not cheap. However I can get lamb sourced from farms just a few miles up the road and beef from the same county.

There are cheaper places around but they often rub this artificial BBQ/Spicy powder onto chicken portions or kebabs which is vile or source meat from all over the place.

I still go to my local butcher for steaks and cuts like belly pork as I think they just taste better and I know the provenance.

I nearly always go to a butcher for meat. They got much busier around the time of the horse meat business, but I think people are starting to drift back to supermarkets.

I went to the butchers the other day, and I thought they were really reasonable.

    I bought:-

8 chicken breasts which are so huge you can cut them in half and have half each.
    2 pork chops
    1 joint of beef
    1 gammon ham joint
    6 x 1Ib bags of braising steak

    It came to £62

How big was the joint of beef though? Weight? I love beef! Love gammon too but can be salty.

I buy venison sausages or burgers in Tesco when they're on offer.

I don't actually know the weight of the beef, but its plenty for 6 people. It was quite a large joint.

I have never tried butcher gammon. I tend to get the ones for £5 from Tesco. I thought it was worth a whirl.
