I was about to start the same thread to see what the most popular ones were to give some I haven't seen a try!

For me (in no particular order, and I decided that some 2 parters could count as 1!) -

    The Curse of Fenric
    Survival
    Blink
The Stolen Earth / Journey's End
The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit
    Remembrance of the Daleks
    Genesis of the Daleks
    The Doctor's Wife
    The Five Doctors
The TV Movie (largely because I thought Paul McGann was brilliant as the Doctor, and it was criminal not inviting him back for a larger cameo than The Night of The Doctor).

Although the thread asks for the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time, I can't help noticing that every episode mentioned so far belongs to the past.

Is this conclusive proof that the best days of the programme are behind us, or are there future episodes that you think should be included?

In the Forest of the Night
    Delta and the Bannerman
    The Gunfighters
    The ultimate foe
    Kill the Moon

Now to try and find where I placed my tongue, slippery thing.

How can anyone include an episode that hasn't happened yet? Bar owning their own TARDIS. Or do you just mean Classic vs. New?

No - this is just my (possibly ill-judged) joke about the title of the thread. "Top 10 stories so far" (or similar) would have elicited no such response, but it should be plain that "all time" must include the future. I'm sure most forum members have ideas for future stories that, if realised, would be included in their Top 10, and I would be interested in seeing lists which include these future stories.

In which case, I wrote an entire fan-fic script called The War of The Doctors, see below.

Written as a 5 part mini-series (similar to Children of Earth) set during the Time War; showing the events leading up to the war, and the 8th Doctor trying to avoid the war and helping where he can - leading up to The Night of The Doctor. It could be shown along side whatever the current series is, or as a 'filler' in between 2 series.

They could also use it as an opportunity to explain why Ace and the 7th Doctor parted company. Then use flash forwards to the War Doctor showing the events that made him decide to destroy both the Daleks and the Time Lords - the specific events.

That way you could potentially do a 3 Doctor story, albeit without them meeting. You'd see more specific events from the time war, and it'd tie up some loose ends. Plus I think most people would be happy to see more of the Time War as the main event, more of McGann, more of John Hurt.

    The basic plot -

We see the 7th Doctor travelling alone, Ace having left him some time ago. Perhaps 7 could do a voice-over explaining that he was on his way to Skaro to collect the Master's remains (hence leading up to him regenerating to 8).

There could be an explanation that the Master had been resurrected by the Time Lords to fight in the war. The reason that the Daleks are exterminating him is because of crimes committed against them by the Master.
Perhaps his mission was to fly back in time to try and stop the Daleks before the war started. He was only resurrected with one regeneration - knowing this he decided to manipulate his form in to that weird snake thingy. This would also explain why he wanted to steal the Doctor's remaining regenerations.

The explanation for how Skaro is still there, even though the 7th Doctor vaporised it with the Hand of Omega is simple: the Hand of Omega had to fly through time to reach Skaro's sun. So these events essentially take place between the Doctor launching the Hand, and it reaching it's destination and destroying Skaro. Wobbly-wobbly-timey-wimey.

When Skaro is destroyed by the Hand, unbeknownst to us, the Doctor has already regenerated into 8. The surviving Daleks then declare war on the Doctor and the Time Lords in retaliation.

The Doctor, having fought in the early days of the war, seeks out a now older Ace (who has since become a kind of time agent, similar to Jack / River Song) to persuade her to help him steal the Nightmare Child in order to prevent the Time Lords from ever using it. She refuses to help initially, having become weary of his manipulation when she was younger.

Once she agrees, they travel together in to the Time War where they plead with the President of Galifrey (Romana II) not to use the weapon. Romana - also wishing to end the war peacefully - announces to the council that she wishes not to surrender, but to negotiate a treaty. The Time Lords have become so corrupt that they over-throw Romana and sentence her to death.

The Time Lords use the Nightmare Child. In the confusion and panic, the 8th Doctor and Ace attempt to evacuate Galifrey. Rassilon, who has now been resurrected, denounces the Doctor as a traitor and sentences him to death.

Knowing that he will not be able to do any good dead, he and Ace flee Galifrey in order to help elsewhere. During their escape, Ace is killed. The Doctor leaves with Ace’s body – which he takes back to London and has buried in the grave that the Hand of Omega was laid to rest in.

The Doctor continues to travel alone, helping where he can, until he is killed. Once resurrected as the War Doctor, he fights endless battles against both the Daleks and Time Lords. The Time Lords do not immediately recognize the War Doctor as the Doctor – perhaps because he is now going by the name the Renegade.

A now very aged War Doctor learns that - in an attempt to draw him out of hiding - Rassilon has decided to destroy Earth by having Galifrey take it’s place. Rassilon knows this will provoke the Doctor in to revealing himself.

Instead of revealing himself, the War Doctor steals The Moment and releases the Bad Wolf energy that destroys both the Daleks and Time Lords. Essentially we witness the entire original time line.

Again, we witness the War Doctor regenerate due to old age in to the 9th Doctor, who goes off and meets Rose for the very first time…
