Battleship and Avengers released in UK before the US
Bit of a turn up for the books this, the Avengers came out in the US this weekend, and Battleship isn't released for another week and a half in the US.
Makes a change from the old days of films sometimes taking months to be released here, following their Us release!

iMAGINE, a scene release group who uploaded films, we're all American.
Battleship is a bit different as it was released a few months before the US which is very strange.I think it maybe the studios releasing the films in the best times for the country!
By the way Australia got both Thor and The Avengers a week before the UK!
"The Raven" too.
I'll take The Avengers over The Muppets any day
They got Avengers a day before us and Thor 6 days before.

America and Canada are getting this movie later than anyone else! I assume this is to allow the stars to solely concentrate on American media outlets that week.
Bond is British (and famously so) of course it was going to come out in Europe before most other countries
Am certainly not complaining, as in the old days we were sometimes months behind the US!
It's the other way around. Iron Man 3 and Oblivion two weeks before and Star Trek Into Darkness a week before.
This can only be good for UK cinema audience!
To be honest the US can be fairly insular. These movies would have been massive in the US regardless of overseas box office.
I would have been prepared to wait for three years for This is 40
It comes down to finances I imagine. Do you release it in the US first and have 2/3 billion people around the world pirate it and have it ruined, taking a hit or do you release it to those 2/3 billlion first and have the 400m US people wait a week.
Financially, the former makes more business sense doesn't it? And yes my figures are obviously inflated for cinema attendance lol :P
As far as I'm concerned, neither Warners nor Disney nor Paramount nor Universal (nor any major studio that pulls this shit) has ANY right to complain about piracy, when they clearly aren't even trying.
There is also the competition factor to consider - having big releases a couple of weeks apart will help all of the studios to get a share of the ticket sales for their opening weekend.
So true
Iron Man 3 in the US had a $175 million weekend sales figures since opening Friday. I have not seen it (yet). Im the 'wait a few weeks until the lines/queues die down".
Even today we sometimes have to wait months.
Red Dawn (21st November 2012 USA / 15th March UK)
I ended up renting it from Amazon.com at a fraction of the cost of what it would had been to see at the cinema.
Madagascar 3 (8th June 2012 USA / 19th October UK)
I had the American Blu-ray of this film sent to me within a couple weeks after it's UK cinema release, once again cheaper than 2 tickets to the cinema to see it on the IMAX & only needed to pay for it the once to see legally it as many times as I like.
They were never scheduled the same week, Star Trek was always scheduled two weeks after Iron Man in the US (and for some time was scheduled at the same date in the UK but was bumped forward a few months ago without explanation).
