Are the Social Security hoping we will die off?

Ok, its a benefits thread, but stop!. I worked in between *sections* at Mental Health facilities for 15 years before i was classed as *unfit* for a paid job. i wont go into boring detail but i have BPD, schizophrenia, psychosis and mania> i managed to hold down jobs by firstly working for my Dad (he left my job open for four months whilst i was i a mental facility|), but sadly moved on and was dismissed from other jobs, including manageress, legal secretary and barmaid. my husband works permanent nights and we took on mortgage before i was classed by three shrinks as unfit for paid work. i have been dismissed due to hallucinations, smelling badly due to bad hygiene and violent outbursts.

so they change me from Incapacity to ESA,all fine, i understand they have to cut back, times are hard and this country is great with disabled. However, because they cant *see* mental problems they put me in back to work category first., my shrink wrote to them and said no way, and they switched me to support.

Now what i am asking is this, why do the media only report the frauds? why do they make out people on sick rake in thousands? why do the benefits agency treat us with such contempt? and most of all WHY do they insist i pay for my prescriptions when most don't, and pay full council tax when we are under 12 k a year? i know somebody in my position, single, no rent to pay, free prescriptions, free council tax and even free college, yet because i have worked they put me on "contribution based" ESA which means i get nothing, no help at all. so i guess what i am saying is (and i am unwell so excuse of this sounds mad), would they prefer it if we did just give up and cost them less by being dead? is having a work ethic and working partner a handicap, when it should be a help, and because i have worked am j being penalised by paying full everything, maybe it would be better if i had never worked? i feel this system punishes those who try and sucks up to those who dont, am i paranoid?.

I just wish the media would report on the truth for most people instead of the staggering headlines *woman claims disability and owns ten mansions", it makes us feel even more alienated as this is like half a per cent of normal people, i get my ESA and hubby gets his permanent nights wage< which is under seven pound an hour (and he had to cut his hours to care for me after repeated warnings), he doesn't get carers allowance, you have to earn less than ninety pound to claim that, and we pay everything in full, i am just sick of the media turning us into hate figures and people not *seeing* mental problems.

lets keep this thread nice please:)

either that or kill off >

say hello to the signed off minimum wage or die 'new workers' fit for work ? >

A 34-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a Thai woman at the SECC complex in Glasgow.

Clive Carter, who is believed to be a security guard with G4S, is accused of killing Khanokporn Satjawat on Monday.

He allegedly attacked the 42-year-old in a second floor female toilet at the Clyde Auditorium by striking her on the head and body with an instrument.

Mr Carter, from Motherwell, made no plea or declaration at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

He appeared before Sheriff Danny Scullion and is expected to appear in court again next week.

A spokesperson at G4S said: "We are not going to comment on this incident just yet."

Ms Satjawat, a pharmaceutical firm manager, died while attending a conference on HIV drug therapy at the auditorium, which is commonly known as the Armadillo, on the banks of the Clyde, west of the city centre.

The Crazy's have taken over

I think, because of stuff I have seen, people who are not well should be helped more.

Who exactly is going to willingly take on employees who may not turn up regularly and will be taking frequent days off sick due to anxiety, depression, other such related illnesses, bad back, chronic pain, arthritis, and any of the other hard-to-prove but nevertheless real ailments, either physical or mental or both, that are genuine obstacles to working?

Ever since I had an operation on a slipped disc in 2001, I have a weak back and if I sit or stand for long periods, day in and day out, I end up with chronic back pain and sciatica. I can bend, lift, sit for hours; I look "normal" for the purposes of an interview, but if I do it all day for more than three days, I start to feel pain. If I don't rest, it gets worse and worse until I am reduced to lying on the floor. There is no way I could hold down a job with full-time hours.

My husband works full time and I work from home part time, so I can adjust my working hours according to my back's status. I don't receive benefit, have never applied, because I can work part-time, but it sure has affected our lifestyle. We'll never have the amount of money I could have earned working full time. Not that I want to, because I believe it's important to be around for my son when he gets home from school. If my husband ever loses his job, though, we'll be screwed - I won't be able to pick up the slack.

It really annoys me that the government's stance seems to be that people on disability are probably trying it on, and should be encouraged to work. They probably can't because it is more satisfying financially and socially to work than it is to be stuck at home all day. Who would make themselves willingly poor?

It sounds like you've had a pretty shit time of it OP. I don't understand the villifying of the disabled right now either. I'm shocked by the way I've been treated by certain people but more so by the stories I've heard of how others have been treated. I gotta say, I love Britain but its not the nicest place to live right now.

Its just easy to pick on the weak ill and poor they dont generally fight back or sue you.

It wouldnt of mattered which party you voted in both had plans to attack those on ICB rather than actually go after the unpaid tax from the rich or even those simply renting out their council homes for huge profit .

Plus again the poor dont have the money to take papers to court over claims about how we are scroungers on the make which those who are lucky enough to be well lap up.

This governemtn is evil for sure. We are on benefits for us and the children and made to feel like criminals.

A neighbour of mine used to look down on people and was always moaning about people on benefits whilst she herself works. Constant moaning.

She recently lost her job and has had to claim benefits now and i hope she sees what its like now. I smile to myself every time i see her now. :D

After two years of appealing about ESA (incapacity benefit under a more media friendly name)i have now found out they are after people on disability living allowance, studies show that less than .2 of a per cent are fraudulent, yet everybody is being called in for medicals. these are not being done by gps or psychiatrists etc but by people employed by ATOS a french company with certain savings targets set for them. i get low rate mobility as the last time i was out alone i was lost and found in the middle of a roundabout, funny but not at the time, so now i have to tell somebody who is unqualified in anything why i *deserve* nineteen pound a week< you know i feel a fool, i have always veered towards tories and now realise i have been so wrong, they are hammering sitting targets. this along with closing all the Remploy factories for people with mental and phsycial disablilites, what the hell are they after?

Yes I get the impression the Coalition are hoping they'll reduce the figure by using the Ducking Stool approach.

This is the time to start preparing for the DLA to PIP changeover by making lifestyle changes like getting social services direct payments for payment of cares and setting a power of attorney to look after your finances.

It's not because you've worked that you get no extra benefits, it's because you have a partner with an income. The single person presumably has no income at all.

There's lots wrong with the benefit system but that isn't it.

Untrue, i did not qualify when single either:). i know the media LOVE to make out all of us on sickness are scroungers with free sky telly and cars etc etc, but its bullshit. if people dont stand up for the most vunerable in society NOW, then they will find themselves targeted next:cry:

I was talking to a customer about this, and he was on ESA, he has health issues, and strongly disagrees with what the government are doing, and it going to be hard times ahead, you will have alot of angry voters, so come 2015, he aint going to vote labour or conseratives

If he lost his benefits, and became even more ill, he thought he might be better of, attacking david cameron, maybe scar him for life, he might get better treatment in jail
