Out of the following places where would you go for a same day trip?

Excluding the ones that take the whole day to get to. I'm just curious as I've never travelled around the UK much so I don't know which of the following cheap options are worth doing for a day. :p

On the list, Glasgow and Middleborough are the only places I could make a day trip too - all the rest are too far away to do in one day.

Cologne is a good city, I'd be looking to stay for 2 or 3 days though.

Sometimes the journey's more fun than the destination....
Maybe travelling to Sunderland first class would be better overall than the Megabus to Paris?

Amsterdam, Bristol, Antwerp (supposed to have amazing jewellery shops that are worth a browse if nothing else), Paris (if you've never been I guess), Manchester or Newcastle.

But for the love of sweet jesus, not Coventry. No.

Surely Newcastle and Sunderland are closer to you than Middlesbrough.

I know, they are the places I was referring to when I said excluding the ones that take a day to get to.

    Neither is Gent.

Amsterdam is fun. Have a wander round the cafes and the red light district .. .. It will broaden your horizons ;) .. & probably leave a big hole in your pocket. But hey you are only young once ..

It will also be more entertaining than any of the other cites on the list .. Go on spoil yourself ..

Amsterdam is an amazing place, a city with a quaint village feel, most of it walkable, gabled buildings, riverside walks along the canals, best in the summer when the pavement cafe culture can be experienced. Lots of museums, art galleries, shops, restaurants, plenty to see and do. Take a canal boat, visit a museum, Van Gogh House or Anne Frank museum, street markets, visit vondelpark ( similar to central park/new york) the coffe/dopeshops, the red light district. over 600 shops, restaurants and bars in total.

In term of things to see and do, I can recommend both Bristol (& nearby Bath) and Manchester in respect of domestic destinations.

I live/have lived in two of them and I'm nearby the third. Also, don't choose the Bristol UWE option because that's the outskirts and you'd only have to take a bus/taxi/drive to the city centre anyway so might as well go directly to the city centre.

    I wouldn't recommend Swindon.

Silverstone is a small place, a bit out in the sticks, mostly noted for holding the F1 Grand Prix.

Bath is well worth a visit. London of course.

Places missing or to consider in addition to your list.

Oxford (*), Cambridge (*), York, Chester (*), Durham, Loughborough, Edinburgh, Salisbury, Winchester (*), Brighton (*), Cardiff (*), Plymouth (*), Exeter (*), Ludlow, Hereford, Worcester, Stratford-upon-Avon (*), Wells (*), Leamington Spa, Liverpool (*), St. Albans (*), Sheffield (*), Welwyn Garden City (*), Cheltenham (*).

(*) Where I've visited so far; others by recommendation.

If one is travelling that way. Tubingen, Stuttgart, Munich, Freiburg; perhaps Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Mannheim etc.
Amsterdam, Bristol, Antwerp (supposed to have amazing jewellery shops that are worth a browse if nothing else)

Antwerp is famous for the diamond area.

    Amsterdam, nuff said.

Yes, but there was nobody smoking weed in that particular one, but there was an annoying cat wandering around the place! :(
