Songs about 'rock and roll'...
Or any other music type
I see Radio 2 is having a celebration of the guitar for the next THREE MONTHS!
But listening to a lot of the songs they are playing now in that vein, the 50s songs especially were often about rock and roll.
But we dont hear songs nowadays about a particular musical genre do we? Or not many anyway, sometimes in the 70s people sang about 'rock'.
But are there any songs about soul, or classical, folk, house music etc etc etc?

Sweet Soul Music by Arthur Conley
'We Call it Acieeed' was about acid house (sort of).
What a visionary he was.
To lower it again, 'Black Metal' by Venom.
Motown Junk - Manic Street Preachers (Motown, pop music and the shooting of Lennon)
It Don't Mean a Thing If it Ain't Got that Swing - Duke Ellington (jazz)
Rock Me, Amadeus - Falco (Amadeus)
Ooh, rock me, Amadeus
Rock me, Amadeus
Rock rock rock rock me, Amadeus
Rock me all the time to the top
great music but also a satirical comment on the British Blues scene of the 60s.........mentions most of the bands of the time !
It's all I need.
the killer - glamourous indie rock n roll
Admittedly you don't get as many tracks proclaiming their own status as krautrock-influenced neo-industrial grindcore. Or if you do, they're either in German or the lyrics are inaudible.
Anyway, on a more sensible note.... Rock n Roll was a brand new thing. In fact being "teenagers" was a pretty new concept too. I doubt there was the media saturation possible back then, so songs about Rock 'n Roll was kind of a version of self publicity for a new and upcoming genre I guess.
Now then, Do the Hucklebuck .... what's that all about ;-)
God Gave Rock 'N' Roll to You - Kiss
Rock 'n' Roll High School - Ramones
Sheena is a Punk Rocker - Ramones
Can't believe nobody mentioned that yet
Gary Glitter had 'Rock and Roll, parts 1 and 2'
Led Zepp 'Rock and Roll'
David Essex 'Rock On' ( surprisingly original song)
Zap Pow - 'This is Reggae Music'
Black Uhuru - 'Natural Reggae Beat'
Waylon Jennings 'Are you sure Hank Done it this way' ( brilliant reflection on C/W music)
