Network connection for PSP

Can anyone tell me how to connect to the network for the psp.
Everytime i try the psp tells me that the WLAN is not switched on.
How do i turn this WLAN on the instructions manual isnt much help.
The screen asks for codes do i get this from my pc, if so how.
Can anyone give me an idiots guide for this.
It took me two hours to figure out how to put photos on the psp with USB cable.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
