I only just found out that Extreme Sports was bought by Zonemedia at the end of last year. Could this mean that it could soon go back to being FTA again?

All of Zonemedia's other chanels are FTA and Fashion TV is a precedent of a channel starting FTA, going encrypted and becoming FTA again.

    If it has any sense.
It can either be buried on a subscripted EPG or get a prominent position on Freesat.

However Chellomedia has several subscription channels in tow.
    I don't think it will.

They should broadcast ECW and UFC on this channel.

...neither of which are extreme sports. Or indeed sports, for that matter.

What are you talking about? What is your definition of sport - football? UFC is MMA - mixed martial arts. TNA is sports entertainment. If pro wrestling wasn't classed as sport then why do Sky Sports broadcast it? Open your eyes brother.

Not even getting in to this. They're not sports. They're acting. Sky Sports show teleshopping, is this a sport?

Regardless, they are not classed as "extreme sports" - a term for skateboarding, snowboarding, biking etc.

Sport. n. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

Teleshopping :- physical- yes the presenters do get quite animated; set of rules- many laws must be adhered to; competitive- competiting against the high street and the internet.

    So, the answer is yes.

Has anyone got any information about the extreme sports channel and whether it may go FTA? I've emailed them a couple of times but never got a reply. Its only a couple of years since they went encrypted so maybe they have a long contract term negociated; it was a channel I enjoyed watching and I would like to see it go FTA again

While WWE and TNA are acting, the UFC is not. Anyone who watches 10 seconds of a fight will tell you that. It's juat a pity that Setanta have it and not a much easier and cheaper to access distributor have it.

there is plenty of fta mma on fight network, nuts tv and pulse(who also now have some great ama biking every afternoon).extreme sports used to be fta for years before becoming a pay channel so if freesat is a sucsess there may be a chance of it going fta

Yes, there is plenty of MMA around, but that's like saying to someone "there's plenty of wrestling around"! The main one is WWE (or in this case UFC) and thats the one everyone watches and likes / knows about. As enjoyable as some might find it watching the amateur or low budget productions of wrestling or MMA, nothing compares to watching the pros at it, be they acting or really kicking and punching the shit out of each other so anything less than the main big event will do.
