Saw this last night. I thought Harry Hill died a little out there, not really very funny. Teri Hatcher was good though (especially the bit at the start  ). I think she's had some work done since the days of Lois Lane though.
The wax works last night were very funny - I love it when Dave goes to Alan just to find out what they're playing for or in this case who the wax work was.
You've got a point - doing a spot aimed at the British audience on Letterman is only going to fall flat. I tune into Letterman because it's American and looks at the world in a certain way. Sometimes the jokes go straight over my head and sometimes it's not that funny to me - but it's not for me! I'm just lucky enough to be able to see it.
Only sometimes not funny, 98% of the time they aren't funny. Still watch the programme though, just not for the comedy as you can bet your life it's crap.

Love when they brought Regus Out
Also, Brad Pitts 12 years of "Scheduling conflicts" was funny.
And Oprah - "Hate's Dave"
