Have noticed this too, it's hilarious, the guy scours through all GTA related media releases and repackages them here as if he is an insider, hope the awe of the 3 or 4 people who fall for it is enough to satisfy that ego of his :D:D:D

Well it's a shame some people feel this way, but I have nothing to prove, I've explained my situation time and time again, but just for the hell of it, yeah, we do have contact with Rockstar and Rockstar do send us some pretty cool stuff, so I'm not sure if people just want me to be a fake so they can feel all smug or something, but hell, I have shared stuff with all of you before it was even released, that's not up to me to prove it just because YOU or some others want me to be a liar.

I made a post here last week when someone asked me what my role was and I explained in good enough detail, go and look for that post and have a read and see if you can understand it, or don't, if you find it easier to sit there and throw accusations at me, continue as you are but at least try and back it up with a good enough reason instead of just ignoring what I have shared and claim I'm trying to trick people or some shit, which I'm not, for like the hundredth time, I don't work at Rockstar, I've never said I work at Rockstar, so why you and a few others keep claiming that I did say that I have no idea.

We always go through this crap every few months here. :p:D And it always starts with crap like this where apparently people claim I said I work at Rockstar which has NEVER been the case, I just think this forum likes drama. :p

C'mon Ash, no need to get defensive lol. The reason it keeps coming up is due to the way you type and how you word things, I don't expect you to understand that though.

I don't know why people get at Ash, even if his information is available elsewhere it's nice to come on here and read it without having to trawl around the internet for info. Ash has never done anyone any harm

I dont see why some people still seem to think you need to be some journalist to have direct contact with Rockstar. There are a number of non-journalists on Youtube who have received freebies or visited their offices in NY.

If you're talking about the way I word some things, especially when related to content, it's because we actually have to, in certain ways, unless you've ever had to deal with this side of things, I don't expect you to understand that though. ;)

Let's get the thread back on track.

In my opinion this is the biggest, most expansive game world I have ever witnessed, not sure how anyone can compare this map with something as compact as San Andreas. I've been playing for nearly 12 hours now and I've yet to step foot out of the city area.

    This map is huge.

GTA.SA did feel bigger to me for some reason, GTA 5 most of the missions are in Los Santos so I did not get that moving on feeling. Oh and flying has a taking off coming into land feel to it.

Maybe it is one of those things, like Wagon Wheels....:D:

It amuses me to think that the people criticising you now were probably among those desperate for all your news and information before the game's release! ;) Anyway...

This shows the San Andreas map superimposed on GTA V map. As you can see the city part of GTA V is about the same size as the San Andreas total area map...but overall the GTA V map is much larger.

And guys..put the handbags away..it's just a thread on map sizes you know.

I didn't say you claim to work for them, I said you try to give the impression you're some kind of insider when you're not. All the mysterious guff where you drop hints about what's coming etc...if you could just be up front and say straight that you know nothing that isn't freely available elsewhere on the internet, you'd do yourself a big favour in avoiding the stick you get. But I doubt you will because really you like one or two faceless usernames on the internet believing you have exclusive info that you might one day deign to bless us with (though you never will, and despite your protestations have never gave any early info on here that wasn't up for grabs on dozens of other sites--simply because you don't have any).

I know plenty Ash doesn't about rockstar, but it's not the pr side. It's the dev side, from knowing a couple of programmers that worked on the thing!

Well believe what you will people, I don't really know how I can prove anything to you, not that I have to. Still at the end of the day, it doesn't affect me, it just clogs these threads up going round in circles every few weeks, just check my post history and compare the dates, you'll see I've revealed a load of small things early and revealed what i was allowed to.

edit: Better yet, ask yourself, what benefit would I have pretending on all this stuff for OVER THREE YEARS now on this forum, either I'm a psycho or I'm telling the truth. :p

The scale of both maps in relation to each other seem way off there, IMO.

Anyway, I love GTA V but my only gripe is the small map. Los Santos feels more like a large town than a city, and each city region doesn't feel particularly distinctive with the Downtown area feeling rather unspectacular with only three or four skyscrapers.
OTOH, I know it is based on LA and is supposed to reflect that.

    That scale is WAY off.

GTA V is a bigger map, but not by that distance. San Andreas had a roughly 6x6km map, compared to GTA 5's 10x10km.

GTA 5 is the bigger and better map. Yes, San Andreas successfully created the illusion of being a bigger map by having three separate cities, a countryside and a desert, giving each area a distinct feel, but in pure terms, GTA 5's map is not only larger but also more intricately detailed. Just look at the Beverly Hills-based area in Vinewood; every single one of those houses looks different and has been individually designed. That's something San Andreas can't compete with, nor can any other open-world game. The intricate detail of the map, rather than the size, is what sets it apart.

Try a test though - see how long it takes you to fly from one side of the San Andreas map to the other, and then try the same thing in GTA V.

Well yeah - LA has hardly any skyscrapers!

One thing the map is missing is more ghetto areas. There are few streets for that but not nearly to the same relative scale as the actual LA.

btw, you never answered my question about the Atomic Blimp from ages ago when I directly asked you if it was a similar stunt as what Treyarch pulled with the Nuketown 2025 map "pre order bonus". Is/was the Atomic Blimp exclusive to the people who pre order or will it be available to people who buy the game WITHOUT a pre order the day it comes out ?

YOU DAMN LIAR, You even replied to me and acknowledge me! This was said on the 24th of May this year!

    You
The only things i'm bothered about is the ability to fly the Blimp*, stunt plane trials* and the blueprint map to frame. I have no desire to wear a f'n Los Santos hat or a pouch. Stick you're bonus/exclusive/collectors/special edition up you're arse Rockstar. Seems like the EA devil has given birth to another c**t.

*which im sure will come out as DLC anyway.

    Me
To clarify, ANY pre-order will get the blimp as a code in the first batch of games to, if the worst happens you can always say you pre-ordered it and get the code anyway.

ALL versions of the game will come with a map, but a coloured magazine style map like normal, the special edition onwards one is just a lot bigger and done in a blueprint style as well as marking off some nice easter eggs to check out.

    You
The thing is, Treyarch pulled this stunt with their Nuketown 2025 map offer. ANY pre orderd Blops 2 game get Nuketown free. I didn't pre order and got the map anyway. It was like they used the Nuketown carrot to get pre orders.

Did you mis-type the bold as it does not make sense. Did you mean to say, ALL versions, pre order or not come with the colour map as standard. Special edition and above comes with the blueprint map in addition to the colour map ?

    Hope this makes sense.

    Me
Yes, sorry, ALL versions come with the coloured folded map in the games box and poster on reverse, same as always, special and collectors edition will also include that standard map as well as the much bigger blueprint map with easter eggs and other cool things marked on it, as well as other stuff drawn on it (will make sense once you play the game I'm told).

    You
    Thanks Ash.

So, you're not going to pull a Treyarch are you in regards to what i said above ?

    Me
It's not really my choice but from what I understand, the first batch going out to stores will include the blimp code, after that, ???, I assume it might fall into the Rockstar Pass along with the rest of the pre-order DLC.

Yeah, sure, I never answered your question, :p

I'm gonna go back to San Andreas soon and the lack of taxi's along with the lack of checkpoints and the fact you lose all your weapons when you die is the only thing putting me off

I've never finished the main story and i really want to but i'm wondering how many times i can reload the game, drive for 10 minutes to a mission start and then die within 2 seconds only to reload and start the cycle again before i just give up on the game once again

A map can be biggest in terms of scale, and biggest in terms of content.

In terms of scale, Grand Theft Auto 5 wins hands down - I would say that it pushes Red Dead Redemption into second place in terms of the map with the largest land mass. The map is simply huge! With each game, I take myself as average a sedan as I can and see how long it takes me to drive from one edge of the map to the other without being reckless or speeding. To get from Los Santos Airport all the way up to Paleto Bay it took nearly 15 minutes - and that's bearing in mind that most of that route is motorway and the cars all speed up at that point.

In terms of content though, GTA 5 is somewhat lacking. Well, it's not...it's brimming with content, but the ratio between content and scale is a little underwhelming. Sure, I can play tennis in about eight different locations, but it's essentially the same activity over and over. Sure, I can go to the Del Perro Pier and ride a rollercoaster, but it's a bit of a dull experience when I'm playing as a gangster in LA. At the same time, there's little Cub3d arcade machines scattered all over, but I can't play them. Finances are huge in the game, but there's no casino. There's streets and streets of night clubs and bars, but I can enter less than a handful. There's a beautifully lit diner in the middle of the desert but you can't go into it. For a game so determined to emphasise scale and freedom, it isn't half picky about what it actually lets you do. The unique building exteriors are wonderfully impressive, but not enough of them have interiors to go with them... I can drive past 100 different buildings but that's all I can do with 99 of them.

San Andreas did something a bit different - it utilised the space it had, and put every bit of it to good use. There was an even wider variety of environments - fully rendered woodland was particularly effective, and even if not THAT large by today's game map standards, it was able to hide the fact that two very different cities were sat at each end of them...it felt like a journey, whereas everything in Los Santos and Blaine feels a bit more like a pit stop.
GTA 5 is beautiful, and detailed... I'm very satisfied with that. But I think with it all unlocked from the start, it's single city kept in one corner of the map and the lack of interiors make for a huge map that has little to say for itself outside of appearing sensational.

It isn't that bad. Best way to do it is to buy the Grove Park safehouse at the beginning then do the Betting Shop trick a few times to earn a fortune, then drive around buying all safehouses as you unlock new areas. You can then save easily after each mission near the next mission's start point.

Most missions start right near a save point, and most are nowhere near as long as GTAIV/V. I've certainly never felt the need for checkpoints in a GTA game until IV. Taking the last mission as an example, you'd follow a car, storm a building, do a boat/bike chase, do a helicopter chase, final shootout. Very annoying to redo it all. SA's last mission on the other hand only really has 2 stages.

GTA V's map having huge chunks of 'nothingness' doesn't bother me, it all adds to the verisimilitude of the environment. I was walking around one unexplored area at night the other day and the eerie calm, along with being kind of lost, was very evocative. The character of the desert is very well realised.

Besides, as Fargo taught us, a lot can happen in the middle of nowhere.

I would have liked more interiors, but only if there's fun stuff to do in them. Stuff like drinking and strippers gets old fast.
