New cat been out too long!
Hi all - I recently adopted a stray cat that had been coming to our office for food. He had a broken pelvis, which I had the vets repair (they kindly went halves with me, thank you Vets 4 Pets) and I also had him neutered at the same time, I brought him home the next day and he has been with me for 3 weeks.
He's been venturing out into the garden but has always come in quickly. At about 7pm tonight I let him out because he was about to use his litter tray, and he's still not back. I'm getting really worried that he's scarpered - does anyone have any experience in this area? He's been well fed and cared for so I'd be surprised if he'd gone but I'm worried he may be lost.
He's such a lovely cat and we are besotted with him - I want him to come home!

Wouldn't worry too much. My cat was out at 5pm, and has just returned home.
He's probably getting to know his territory now that he's settling in and getting more confident.
Thanks for replying! No he's not chipped, though is booked in to have it done with some follow on treatment for his leg in 2 weeks. Ive had cats before and I know they can stay out for ages, I just have this sinking feeling that he's not coming back!
All is well :kitty:
Aw bless him - he had been coming to our offices for weeks, all limpy and hungry. Eventually we got him to the vet where they told us he a broken pelvis. Neither the RSPCA or the Cat Protection League could help so we decided to pay for his op and volunteered to let him recuperate at my house. I have fallen madly in love with him, as have my kids and my cat allergy ridden husband! We are off to bed now!
They sure do - almost as much as my kids! :kitty:
Happy kitty dreams
You could keep him in, but he'll hate that.
Anyway, good for you for taking him on when he was in a bad way:)
Thanks! No, I wouldn't keep him in as that wouldn't be fair on him. In the daytime he only seems to have a little wander around the garden for 5 mins then comes in but I guess they are more night creatures. I haven't had a cat for over 10 years, due to Mr Decobelles allergies - you forget a lot of stuff! I'm more that happy to have him, he's such an amazing friendly chappy - I have turned into a total cat bore!
I've been a cat bore for the last 3 years, my first cat :kitty:
In fact, I've just uploaded a pic of Simba on Facebook just now, I can imagine a lot of eye rolling, but do I care - NOPE!:D
Ps My husband is allergic to cats, but Simba is the love of his life (I'm guessing the kids and I are included too, somewhere down the line ) - we have boxes of anti histamine tablets all over the house.
Lol, us too, good old Piriton. I bought some Petal Cleanse from Amazon but the naughty cat won't let me put it on him!
Never heard of that, off for a nose on Amazon.
EDIT - just had a look, never knew something like that even existed!
Hi decobelle - I presume he is back. Queenshak's post followed directly on from yours where you said you had a sinking feeling he wasn't coming back ?
Guess there might have been a PM or whatever ? Slightly confused.
The thread has been pruned since last night - some idiot was banging on about something completely irrelevant to a lost, much loved, pet.
But, yes, the cat is back!:D
That's good - thanks Shrike
Queenshaks - let me know if you buy any and how you get on - if only Enzo would only let me apply it I think it might solve all of our problems!
Hypocat
Only problem is it seems to be 3-4 years off yet:(
Enzo, aww lovely name
Simba may put up a fight as he's 3 now and he's not used to anything but a good groom by the husband and claw clipping at the vets
If I do, if (:D) I'll jet you know for sure.
Considering cats have been around the longest time (9500 years ago - yes I Googled), you would have thought something like this would have been in place years ago.
Hey ho...
I expect its more of a modern problem too with our increasing succepability to allegies and the fact the more people actually keep cats, and in their houses too.
Thankfully I'm able to give my kitty a big old cuddle - just a shame she doesn't "do" cuddles and I have to be content with a few strokes:(
Thanks - named after Enzo Ferrari! Considering his poorly leg he is pretty nifty too!
I might try the Petal Cleanse again tomorrow- the problem is it has the consistency of water and obviously they hate being wet. I used a cloth to apply it last time, might try if in small sections by hand instead.
Fair dos Shrike
Mine is an indoor cat, amazing how much fluff he can leave around the place
My husband is the only one he actively looks for to be hugged and picked up, the big ginger wuss (that's the cat not the hubby btw ;-))
Enzo has things to do, no hanging around!:D
Perhaps splash it on your hand to warm it up then stroke him as you apply it?
Is your husband suffering badly yet?
Yes, good idea, I'll let you know how it goes.
He's been ok so far, apart from a couple of days when he's had sore eyes - I think it's just if he gets some of the hair or dander in his eyes. As long as he doesn't pet Enzo, and I keep the place as fluff free as possible he's managing - he's not exactly what you'd call a cat lover, more a cat tolerator! Though I have come in and found him with the cat purring away on his knee so he may be softening...
Aww Enzo's won him over
