Clubs in recent times that unnecessarily rock the boat

WBA - Fair enough Dan Ashworth left of his own accord to work within The FA but since he left the club has been shooting itself in the foot on a daily leisure. Having failed to sort out contract issues with Shane Long they then signed Nicolas Anelka, sacked Steve Clarke then flogged Long.

Cardiff - Changing colour of kit aside, Malky Mackay was actually doing a good job when he got the gooner.

Newcastle - Constantly likes to play Jack in the Box with itself, whenever they appear to be near the final hurdle, they then decide to fall flat on their arse by either in-house fallouts, hiring Joe Kinnear twice and selling some of their best players despite not needing to.

Blackburn - Sacking Big Sam.

Hull City - Not yet succumbed to silly chairman demands but sooner than lately he'll probably hate the way they play, as well as the name 'City'.

To be fair some of these kinds of decisions pay off, some don't. You could say for example that Stoke were rocking the boat by replacing Pulis with Hughes but so far it's worked out quite well for them.

But wasn't it Pulis' decision to leave as he felt he couldn't take the team any further?

Based on what? The huge improvement in results since he left?

Stoke decided they wanted a change.

    CHELSEA FC!!

Ranieri - Qualifies us for the CL. Takes us to the SF at our first attempt. Takes us to our highest league posistion for 50 years and is then fired.

Jose takes us to our first title in 50 years. Wins title the following year, then finishes second. Fired next season.

Caretaker boss takes us to a Terry slip from winning the CL, but isn't offered the job.

Carlo wins us the double for the first time and by playing attacking football. Second the following year and is fired.

Chelsea hero wins us the CL, and is fired the next season.

    You couldn't make it up!

The funny thing about that is if it was down to you we'd be sacking Mourinho again….

McCarthy had to go, we were going down without doubt. It was what happened afterwards that was the real mistake.

It is very easy to say that in hindsight, but given their form, position and obvious breakdown in relationship with Tan, at the time it was justified though perhaps not sensible.

Bringing in an untested PL manager who's best experience was at a bankrolled Norwegian premier league club was never going to end well. Cardiff are the gift that keep on giving though, they rarely make sensible decisions.

Not much hindsight in letting your manager spend a fortune then sacking him just as he's trying to get a team going is there?

Clearly Tan should have kept his eye on the finances, but there's no denying Mackay made a lot of poor purchases and on top of that wanted to bring in more players, he had to go.

Who were his poor purchases? Other than Cornelius who for some reason known only to Cardiff was only given 8 games before being sold off for a huge loss.

Rafa's time was up. It was replacing him with Hodgson that was the problem

Swansea sacking Michael Laudrup.. Charlton appointing Les Reed (Before getting relegated from the Prem) Wolves sacking Mick McCarthy in favour of Terry Connor.

Hearts sacking George Burley has to be up there as one of the daftest things ever..

Southampton sacking Paul Sturrock a week into the season and replacing him with Steve Wigley. It was such a bizarre appointment that many still thought Wigley was meant to do badly so that the chairman would have an excuse to bring back Glenn Hoddle, which of course blew up spectacularly when Hoddle decided to join Wolves instead.

Was Terry the favorite though. I seem to remember other managers were approached first and Terry was a last resort? I am probably wrong thought :D just how I seem to remember it.

Wolves didn't sack McCarthy in favour of Terry Connor. They sacked McCarthy because Wolves were going down. At the point he was sacked Wolves had no intention of offering the post to TC

I think Steve Bruce was approached shortly after McCarthy got the axe, but negotiations supposedly broke down at an early stage, and they instead decided to appoint Connor permanently.
