come on you are trying to read far too much into things
everyone will sing the song differently so the reaction to it will be different
trying to base whats going to happen on previous versions of the song being used on the show is such flawed logic
Regardless, it's still interesting to look at the statistics (well for at least for geeky me). And actually though singers may sing songs differently, I feel a massive amount of credit has to be given to the arrangement (which as it were affects the 'moments' someone can have with the song). Dreams (Gabrielle) is the perfect example of a sort of level performance with no big moments, and I Will Always Love You has big moments with huge range and all these changes in dynamic. So actually (imo, I think, I feel) arrangement is very important...so it really depends are they going to use the same arrangements as the contestants before or not?
So actually though vocals can enhance a song, I think the musical arrangement (so dynamic and range) can make or break a song. Anyway this isn't meant to be an argument par se...but rather an observation and my opinion. And my opinion of what the producers intentions are.

but as both fudd and myself said above the shock factor of aiden doing that song the way he did created a completely different dynamic to anything that tamera is likely to do at the weekend so its impossible to make any prediction based on how his version was received

Fine but in my opinion while Tamera's version may be dramatically different to Aiden's, Mary/Sam B are similar, Lloyd/Sam C are similar, Hannah/Rebecca are similar and I can see them doing similar things with their songs (with similar arrangements) thus achieving the intended effects (although Hannah could force/put a little more passionate into it than Rebecca's sweeter soulful version). You could also say Rough Copy is similar to One Direction in that they both appeal to the younger demographics (albeit in slightly different genres ).
Also actually on second thought, Luke and Danyl are dramatically different (one's folk rock and the other's sort of soul pop). I can see Luke doing something a bit more interesting than Danyl's slightly more dull version of it. Still, Your Song is a good example of how arrangement makes or breaks a song. Look at how Janet had a moment with it in her auditions (based on Ellie's slightly more indie pop version) and Danyl didn't really go anywhere with it (based on the more classic Elton John style).

so you are now agreeing that until we see them perform the song and see how well they do it and what, if anything, they do with the song arrangement-wise, its impossible to really tell
Tamera may be in big trouble again, even if she smashes it vocally. It's the same again, set her up in comparison with a world class diva, but this time it's an iconic number from our Shirley! The younger voters are going to go "who? Just another ballad!" Most of the older ones are going to say "She's not as good as our Shirley, who does she think she is?"
You can see she loves the group songs and enjoyed being on stage with the dancers on week 1. But since then she has been sent out on her own to be shot at. She is 16 for Christ's sake. Let her have some fun and show what kind of artiste she could become, unless they see her walking out to an empty stage in a range of evening dresses for each number.
I am sure she will do the song justice but she is on a hiding to nothing!
Luke Friend – Your Song
Not too keen on this. It's a tender song and I'm afraid he will growl his way through it. A rearrangement is definitely necessary.
Nicholas McDonald – Someone Like You
I was stunned by this, at first, but this can be like A Thousand Years (his arena audition). That said, it's quite different and connecting with this is harder imho. Give him the pimp slot and TPTB are playing with fire.
Rough Copy – Viva La Vida
They've been hit and miss with song choices since Week 1 and this seems to be in the "miss" category. If they get an early slot and the judges don't crank up the praise, they could be in trouble.
Sam Bailey – Something
A make or break for her as far as his presumed head-to-head with Nicholas. She's been doing so well in the last few weeks because her songs have been all about the big moments. This requires tenderness from her, but remember Week 2? Yeah.
Sam Callahan – Faith
I'm confused with this. Zero-personality Lloyd nailed this 4 years ago, so I'm guessing Sam can surely do better by showing his cheeky side. That said, this is a BAD song to have dancers, so if there are dancers in the performance, he could be toast. It doesn't help that (afaik) he wants to bring his guitar, which reeks of the music video (I love the video, but it won't work in a performance imho).
Tamera Foster – Diamonds Are Forever
Straight up Shirley Bassey this and she will be in trouble. Add some Kanye (or anything current ffs) and she will shine.
Hannah Barrett – Satisfaction
Her first legit uptempo and can definitely be made "soulful", but the song has a "cool" factor that Hannah might miss out on. She's had songs that fit her but she hasn't connected with the public; I don't think this can change things.

Agree with just about all of this! Just to add that Hannah has to watch overdoing this. Even Mick is shouting out at the end, so she needs to be careful how "soulful" she gets!
A Shirley Bassey number for Tamera.....yeah that's really going to show how current sounding she is:rolleyes:
Guess they really want her out now with such a dreadful song choice.
Not the best song choices! I don't really know any of the songs, not fully!. I would have thought their would have been a bit more imagination than that!.

As a Sam Bailey fan i am a bit worried about her on this one. Like you rightly say her songs are all about big moments, I just don't think this song suits what she is about! Yes we need to see something different but not at the expense of her having her chances damaged on the show!
Finally a week where nicholas has a song choice that's as good as if not better than the rest. On top of his performance tonight at hamden infront of the scottish football fans this could be the week nicholas is unleashed with his over due pimp slot. Take advantage of his 5/1 it won't be around for much longer
I have correctly predicted two of these choices in another thread, well done me! Plus my other choices were X factor typical but would still be better than these choices
Oh dear. Looking at this from the perspective of a 2 and a half hour show, this isnt good. We are back to movie week style endless dirge of dreary songs one after another.
I don't think anyone has come out of this with a really suitable song apart from perhaps Hannah, Sam C is particularly bad really, if the dress him in jeans white T mirror glasses and a guitar I wont be shocked, but I will be horrified.
theres nothing wrong with the song itself but is it the right sort of thing to be giving a 16/17 year old girl at this stage of the competition ?
especially when it risks being a bit samey to her last few songs , one of which got her into the bottom two
So far, all of Tameras songs have been middle aged divorcee songs, completely unsuitable for a teenager. This is another continuation on the same theme.
They're all horrible song choices this week. Glad I'm out Saturday and can ff through the dross Sunday morning
Hannah needs something soft and soulful - this song is anything but
Imagine if they gave her Lulu's 'Shout'
I'm hoping Luke will have his guitar again as he seems comfortable with that.
How predictable is Sam B's song
I think Rough Copy will be OK
Tamera could shine with hers
Sam C's performance could be very like last weeks, with lots of dancers
It will be interesting to see what Nicholas does with his song
I think it's most likely Sam C will be on first - especially as he was last, last week
Pimp slot? It could be Sam B, Tamera, Hannah or Nicholas...I'd like it to be Luke
Luke's song is a good show-closer and while Nicholas is due a pimp slot, he won't get it unless they want him to win. Rough Copy could be the show-closer if they have some magic arrangement of the song (which can't mask the dreary nature of the song but the judges don't care).
I'm guessing that they're shoving Sam C and Hannah in the beginning and see who will survive. Of course, they can test their luck and give Sam C a second straight late slot (so Hannah can die and her votes go to Tamera/Sam B before it's too late), then shove him to the beginning next week (with another Nicky-Sam B memory hole squeeze for good measure) and it's goodbye for him.
Tamera and Sam B's songs sound like they're for the middle of the show.

Nothing wrong with an "old-ass song" if you ask me

I'm not much of a Tamera fan, so I guess I'm more concerned with whether she does the song justice rather than the other way round.
I'm sure she'll do just fine.

Agreed. Always the case with X Factor.
Shocked that Rough Copy have got a 21st century song, but Coldplay?!:yawn:
