Pubs and shops have wireless payment but usually only by card, haven't heard of many phones being able to do it. I think Orange had teamed up with Barclaycard to enable it?
Read an article recently about Vodafone staff trialling their mobile payments app, think it said that customers of any network can use it when launched.
I think l have found a way to do contactless payments on the S4. There is an app called 02 Wallet, that will allow you to top up a virtual card. It is open to users on any network.
Have stuck a tenner on it and will see what happens next time l am in a shop with a contactless payment terminal.
It will become more common place this year i think with others trialling contactless payments as well.
I read an article on it but it implied that visa was providing some form of app, but the banks would need to enable the function 'over the air' to enable payments to work.
I would be interested to know from an S4 owner if this is now an out of the box capability.

My HTC One is NFC enabled and I also have a Barkleys account. I have downloaded the Barkleys Pingit app. Can I use contactless payment or do I have to be with Orange?

There are quite a few places supporting contactless payment, but right now there is almost no support for smartphones to use it. The focus is on debit/credit card holders.
I'm not sure why there is a delay unless there are security concerns (that seems to be what visa are working on).
That part of my phone is disabled, nothing available for it, so no point in having it enabled.
Contactless payment have taken a long time to get going in this country, i think it will be a few years yet before the apps are available for it.
My bank have not even sent out Contactless cards around here yet.
i would think paying with a mobile phone ism more time consuming than with a card or cash even. some people have enough problems just getting the thing out of standby.
