iPhone recovery mode. Please help.

Right, I have an iPhone 4 and attempted up update this evening. When I did so, it got stuck at 'preparing iPhone for restore'. Now, my phone constantly displays this screen but when I plug it into my laptop, it won't connect to iTunes and I get a 'Found New Hardware' pop-up, so I click 'locate and install driver software', and eventually says 'insert the disc which came with your Apple Mobile device (recovery mode)', which I do not have, nor was I given one in my iPhone box and then get told that Windows could not find driver software for my device.

So I'm stuck.

Please any suggestions?!

Uninstall all Apple software (except Safari if you have it installed) and re-install iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

This will re-install the recovery mode drivers and enable iTunes to see the phone again.

You could also try and hold the power button and the home button on the phone down simultaneously until the phone completely reboots and then trying syncing it again.
