For me the ones I liked and couldn't get hold of (never released on any format)
Theme to The Great Egg Race
and my most covetted theme
World in Action (Jam for World in Action) but as the author of the song is disputed (It was written by either Jonathan Weston or Shawn Phillips) I suspect it will never see the light of day
I think Game of Thrones is the best current tv theme tune. With so many modern tv shows almost doing away with proper tv theme tunes (in the US its basically to squeeze in more commercials!), its nice that HBO keep the tradition going.
Pleased to see the World In Action theme mentioned, as it's one of my favourites too and I don't think I've ever seen it get a mention on threads like this before.
I also like...
Dr Who (the earlier versions)
Prospects
Tour Of Duty (which used The Rolling Stones 'Paint It Black' as it's theme)
The Sweeney
Weekend World (Nantucket Sleighride-Mountain)
Angels (Motivation-Alan Parker)
This Week (Intermezzo Karelia Suite-Sibelius)
Don't Ask Me, Encounter France and Saxondale all used House Of The King-Focus
Return Of The Saint
Secret Army
Callan
Batman
Kidnapped (David's Song)
Crown Court end theme (Distant Hills)
Auf Wiedersehen Pet - Living Alright and Breaking Away
So many excellent tunes cited on here. My favourites include:
The Persuaders – cannot be bettered IMO
The Man from UNCLE
Knight Rider
The Prisoner
Black Beauty
Ulysses 31
World in Action
Cover Up – Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out for a Hero
The Life and Times of Lloyd George
Mastermind
BBC’s show jumping coverage
V – the final battle
The New Avengers
With the exception of the Game of Thrones, I don’t think the music for any modern day programmes quite matches up.
Try this - SUPERSTARS by Johnny Pearson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvuBx7iwD0U
Turn your volume & bass up & enjoy the Heavy Action
He also wrote - 3-2-1, The Rat Catchers, All Creatures Great and Small, Captain Pugwash, Monday Night Football, Mary Mungo & Midge and ITN's News at Ten.
Yes and always worth hearing again. I was pleased to get the full version of Tomorrows World the other week...a great composition and arrangement by the late great Johnny Dankworth
Comments

Also can't believe no one has mentioned Baywatch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuYrRebvFHc
Technically the first isn't a TV theme.
It has existed since 1975 as part of the Rick Wakeman concept album "The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" and is edited from the first track "Arthur".
