Whilst my download is now 20 meg my upload is still only at 1 meg. I rang retentions who contacted the engineers and they said that they were concentrating on doubling the download first and the upload will follow later in the year. He also offered me a free superhub and said he would up my speed to 30 meg for the same price as I pay now for the 20 meg "L" package. I took him up on his offer, i will report back with any developments.
Well my Virgin cable service has been doubled from 30mb to 60mb in Maidstone, Kent.
Before the upgrade I was getting a solid 30mb all day every day. Now "upgraded" I get 60mb for a few hours in the morning, then lucky to get 20mb the rest of the day....Virgin call this progress?
No need in London as the 100MB Broadband was available from the End of April
We are just waiting now for the 120MB Broadband to be Rolled-out starting from June 2012
Not quite true, as the 100meg broadband just rolled out is separate from the speed-doubling, and although the network can cope (?) with a handful of elective upgrades to 100meg, it will need upgrading to cater for everyone in an area going from 30 to 60, and 50 to 100 (for example).
The 120meg upgrade will come "in the summer", I have seen no official announcement that it starts in June, it could be July or even August (or maybe the first three of weeks of September if VM are using the astronomical caledar).

Newcastle, Ashford, Ipswich, Dundee, Belfast and Cambridge were all allegedly supposed to get the 'free' double speed upgrade first, haven't heard any confirmation that anyone from those areas have got it.

I got mine yesterday...well the download got double, upload is still the same.
I'm in the Dundee zone, although not actually in Dundee.
Just logged into my virgin media account and it gave me the option to 'order' my free upgrade. Seems strange they needed name/address and how long I'd lived there (like I'm not already a customer).
Does doing this expediate your upgrade over the more general upgrade everyone will get? And how long does it take to come on after so called 'ordering'?

A few people have noticed this.
have VM enabled some sort of throttling? I.E if everyone downs files, it will cut everyone back to help the network?
ties in with the fact they call their broadband UPTO.
before it said 30meg say, now it says upto 30 meg. to me thats telling me my speed wont always be at 30...
If they have done that then they will loose alot of customers! sure no way in hell would I pay for 60meg to only get 20!

It has always been advertised as upto ever since the cable companies started offering broadband. When I first got broadband from NTL it was still advertised as upto 128k.
Nope, both my connection and my parents both on the Mansfield area not been upgraded.
Mine would be a simple uplift as already on 30mb. My parents need the superhub sending but Virgin haven't contacted either of us as yet. Yet again, a bit poor by Virgin.
Just reading this thread and decided to double check when mine was being upgraded. Seems it's been done but I need a super hub which I had to arrange to be delivered by filling out the form online.
Did that but have to wait until 9th May for delivery. I just wonder why I wasn't informed I had to order the superhub, and how long ago could I have ordered the superhub?

I'm from the Mansfield area and I still haven't been upgraded. Hm.

I didn't think it was.....
my mate who is on node CPC-SOTON9 is on 50meg and getting 50 meg. My other mates just moved to the same area and on node 9 and ordered the essentials collection. upto 30meg... he's getting 26 at the moment, it dropped to 18 meg earlier... seems theres some sort of dynamic speed clamping.
like if the network is on heavy load, it'll cut everyone back. I am not liking this.

Which is even weirder when Yorkshire has had their speed doubled. Not sure what parts of Yorkshire though
It seems strange i wont be upgraded until Oct 2012 at the latest TO 60MB, but if I want 100mb, I can get it from JULY 2012
I would like to know what virgin are really up to, ie are they hoping if you cant wait, 100mb is ready now for you
Virgin are now looking at the Capacity side of things before everyone upgrades to a faster download speeds and upload speeds will follow later on,
upload speeds MIGHT be last on the list of things to do
After that from June/July/August/September 2012 Virgin will start to roll out the 120MB Broadband speed so everyone on 100MB Broadband can move to this new Tier
People that do not have a Superhub will get one as part of the Double Speed upgrade
Comments
My modem meanwhile reads
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10242000
Which suggests 10 mb is my maximum speed(?), the website says it thinks my modem is fine.
Not sure what to make of it.
Costs for people not upgrading from 50MB Broadband is this
£49.95 Installation if you do not have a Superhub Modem
£7.50 extra a month on top of your old Tier cost or £25.50 a month whichever applies

have you rebooted your cable modem / router?

Yes, they rang us and did it about a week ago. Ours wasn't supposed to be until July/Dec, either:o

Can someone say this is true?
Just ran speedtest and it is showing 20 and not 10mbs.
BBC Snooker stream still bufffered like it was 1999 though today, so go figure.
50Mb/s to 100Mb/s!
