I was banned from Amazon for too many returns.

To get around it, I just create a new account and order stuff, they ban me, I create a new account and so on...

I still return as much as I did before and they seem to care less. Their "account specialists" are more than happy to help me return things, they even refund the postage fees!

The funniest thing is they finish their emails with, "We hope to see you again soon...", so that is what I am doing :p

I believe that about as much as I believe that the sky is black during the day.

I can't see why people are having so many returns, it sounds like people are taking the 'p'. All this stuff costs money, which puts the prices up for everyone else.

I was going to say that maybe people are ordering CDs/DVDs/Blu-Rays, then copying them, and then sending them back. Not sure if Amazon would accept any returned media where the packaging has been tore off.

I tend to buy a lot of hardback books and have had to return quite a few because the brown paper they pack the boxes with has damaged or torn the dust jacket of the book. It frustrates the hell out of me especially if I've bought the book to arrive on publication day and it has to go back. I've emailed them a few times to ask them to review the packaging but they don't. I guess the amount of returns versus the cost of packaging make it more cost effective to keep things as they are?

I would be gutted to lose my Amazon account. Just this week I've ordered two new books, a hard to find book from US Marketplace, a new iron, dog food, a couple of beauty items and some white peach purée to make Bellini's. Where else can you get such variety with usually free P & P, usually the best prices and such brilliant service?

I must say on the whole I like Amazon , one item they sent me was not what I ordered I contacted them and they told me to keep it anyway and they refunded me, another item they sent me was not as advertised as it was the wrong model they told me there could be no return or refund , as I pointed out they sold an item that was not the one described on line and was not capable of performing the tasks as described and that they had a legal obligation to replace it I didn't want a refund I wanted the item I ordered, again told no refund no replacement , I then spoke with someone else at Amazon who was polite apologised and refunded me .

Personally I don't think it should matter how many returns you have as long as they are for genuine reasons such as faulty or the wrong items ( it's distance selling so you have no opportunity to check before you receive it ) , but if you constantly return as you don't like things I can understand them saying enough is enough.

It sounds like they will just refuse your business if you take the Michael and return too many items, which is fair enough, no business is obligated to take custom from some people. If I caused a nuisance at my local tyre garage and was a pest of a customer they could turn me away and refuse my business, it is no different for Amazon.

You don't return it, you email it and say you are unhappy that the price has now dropped so much etc etc... and they usually refund you the difference :)

Bear in mind that they don't make the stuff and the suppliers change prices too, they may have bought your item at a different wholesale price, however if it isn't shipped they will usually pay back the difference, and have even been known to afterwards as well.

Even if you did send the odd item back unopened because of the price I wouldn't have a problem with that. I think the people that are getting banned are severely abusing the returns process and are costing other customers more money as it causes the prices to go up for everyone.

Amazon have the best returns system of any company I have ever used. However if some people take the p!ss then it is totally reasonable for them to close the account.

I have just spent 10 minutes reading this to find its an old thread and possibly a wind up

However, what Im interested in is the stance by some on here that if you order a couple of sizes and send the one that doesnt fit back, that is wrong.

I havent ever sent anything back to Amazon, or any online ordering site to be honest, but that is because Im very lazy. I simply cant be bothered organising for it to be sent back.

But I have wasted countless monies on shoes that dont fit, tops that have gone straight to the charity shop. There is a pair of trousers in the hallway at the moment, never fitted, still got the tag on, they are going down the charity. I think they were ebay actually.

But the point is, if you went into a high street store and took 3 items into the changing room and then came out and bought the one that fits you, thats exactly what you are doing when you order several sizes of something at the same time.

That'll last about a week and they'll ban it again.

You just have to keep making new email accounts.

The transfer keeps the original 1.33:1 ratio, unless you stretch the image the black bars down each side will drive you crazy after a while.

I havent ever sent anything back to Amazon, or any online ordering site to be honest, but that is because Im very lazy. I simply cant be bothered organising for it to be sent back.

Doing it once in a while isn't a problem, the issue tends to be that some people take the mickey and will order not just two or three different sizes, but also colours and then return say 5 items out of a six item order..

Or will order books they need for school/university that are expensive and not in at their library, then return them just inside the 30 day window, repeatedly.

I've also known people to do it with electronics etc - people were doing it with some PC parts retailers to try and find things like which videocard was better in their system, or which one overlocked best.

It's those people that are the issue for any retailer, as the retailer then can not sell the items at their normal price are often end up taking a loss.

I've just had to arrange a return for an Item I ordered because they sent the wrong one (there were about 4 different versions with various accessories, they sent the basic version), which was very simple to do, and I had no worries about doing as it was their mistake.

They don't mind the odd "I changed my mind" return, especially if it's something that obviously hasn't been used/opened, or is returned in as new and original packaging.
What they rightly object to is the people that treat them as a lending service.

At the moment Amazon CS tends to be very good, but people take advantage of it, much the same as people used to take advantage of Game/HMV's no quibbles exchange policies, or M&S's ones, which led to the bricks and mortar stores changing their policies, Amazon is in a better position to just refuse to deal with the problem customers.

I'm outraged! I love my amazon account too! :(

I've returned quite a few items on/off this year and they've refunded me etc, then all of a sudden I get an email saying that "our business has to end here" and that too many returns have exceeded a limit.

I know someone who had their account banned because of too many refunds, which is odd seeing as all amazon need to do in the first place is say "no" or whatever.

I'm gonna miss it so much, I got everything on there! :(

I know this must seem very personal and probably very unfair as I am sure your reasons for returning the time were genuine. However, all companies put in place measures for identifying people that may be abusing their service. This is done usually fairly crudely, based on number of times has exceeded the limit for a particular type of transaction e.g. Returns. You have triggered the automatic response to the limit on returns that Amazon has set. From my own experience in working on systems that track abuse of service all I can say is don't give as the may not be the end of the road. Most companies do not want to turn away good customers so write to Amazon outlining the reasons why you returned the items. If you are able to show your actions were reasonable under the circumstances then they will hopefully reverse their decision, I know my company would and have.

I haven't ever returned an item to Amazon or a Marketplace trader. I either get a refund and keep the item or get sent a replacement.

I guess it depends who you are dealing with.

And also on what you've bought. Someone on marketplace sent me a DVD box set rather than the blu-ray box set I had ordered and for £60 they were not going to let me keep that, if it had been a fiver that might have been different.
