I can't bear Weekend Wogan, I used to be one of his biggest fans but I find his stupid innuendo embarrassing, I can't understand why he's gone so silly in his old age
I am afraid I agree with you. I used to listen to Wogan every morning for many years but this new show does nothing for me in fact I have stopped listening. The audience participation thing is a mistake ,in my view.
Fwiw, I was always of the opinion that Wogan, televised, was dreadful; all that mugging to camera, you know, smirks, astonishment, knowing winks etc but I never lost my admiration for him as a radio chap. Now with Weekend Wogan we seem to have the worst of both worlds. In other words I feel he's better off without a physical audience.
He's always been like this in front of an audience. Has know one every seen him how he conducts himself on Children In Need TV. I suppose you could say he's embrassment to Britsh Broadcasting, but people love him.

You could say that, but you'd be way off the mark.
Why is he embarrassing? Is it because he's more experienced, a bit older than many of his colleagues on R2?
If youj mean he seems embarrassed or nervous in front of a live audience, that's something else.
Have to admit WW isn't compulsive listening for me either, which is a real shame as I really enjoyed WUTW - I think the audience being live is part of the problem. With WUTW the audience participation was different in the form of the e-mails carefully selected first by the late and much lamented Paul Walters and subsequently Barrowlands Boyd.
Have only listened to R2 breakfast this year on the (too few) weeks when Richard Allinson was sitting in.
I've always felt that Terry W seems incredibly self conscious in front of camera and that comes out as him looking silly. but he was a genius on Wake Up To Wogan, no-one could touch him imo:p
I was looking forward to hearing sir Terry on a Sunday morning, and maybe a Saturday later on , doing what he did best for all those years , have tried listening and have also stopped , just not the same.
I hate to say this, I really do, after all the wonderful fun Wogan has given us over the years it feels like a betrayal to even say it but - Weekend Wogan is not his best show.
He was unmatched in what he did - talk through the radio, one to one with the listener. I was there for his two stints on the breakfast show along with Olympic Wogan, Punchlines, The Day Job and so many more. But the magic never quite happened on TV.
Tel has never been at his best with an audience to please. Best left alone with a pile of letters and a quiet studio.
The in yer face innuendo has tipped from hilarious to just smutty. The last Janet and John on his breakfast show was frankly disgusting - I'm no prude but golden showers?
I'd like to see him return with a more intimate show. Just him some discs and the letters.
Still a wonderful voice and a marvelous broadcaster, but this vehicle needs backing into the R2 garage.
Harmlessly musing on what spots he'd be grand in now, and that's regardless of whether he would be interested in them, I reckon weekdays 10pm to midnight would be a terrific outlet for his intimate chat. Same format as WUTW, same producer, a winner. Yup, I know Radio 2 would prefer a younger audience at that time, and I know he graduated from Late Night Extra a very long time ago but for selfish reasons and a national lowering of blood pressure, yes please.
The best of Weekend Wogan to be broadcast on 26th Dec & 2nd Jan. Both !!! should be very short programmes
It's strange isn't it, Wogan said it was the msot fun that he has ever had on radio presenting this show, shame we don't share his sense of fun.
I can see him stepping things down a gear in 2011, maybe just two series, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn and then the other 6 months Richard Madeley on Sunday Brunch
Hi! All
While some of you might not like his Weekend Wogan format and some others will, I do feel that BBC Radio 2 has too many presenters for a Sunday such as Michael Ball as well as Richard Madeley and Terry Wogan.
I mean what a lot of presenters for the 11am-1pm slot unless Michael Ball is moving on, did I vagualy read it somewhere or if he is not then as you say then why not find a slot where Terry can present from the studio and in the format of Wake Up To Wogan.
Then Michael Ball and or Richard Madeley can stay on the 11am-1pm slot, now I look forward to more suggestions.
I can't see Wogan stepping down the show is more popular watching it than live. As long as people want him he will continue. There are rumours Richard Madeley getting a show in 2011. If Mr Dermot O'Leary does take X Factor to the US, then maybe Zoe Ball will take up his slot, and RM does Saturday where Zoe sits? We have to to wait and see.

I watched this briefly on the red button yesterday, and I have to say 'what a waste of money'. Live sung jingles, a live studio band, plus all the cost of running a 'radio theatre'. Presumably the tickets were free, so how is all this being paid for?
I'd be only too happy to hear Wogan doing a show from a radio studio, but this must be costing a fortune!

Well AFAIK Radio 2's budget isn't being increased, so I'm guessing it's being paid for from existing resources. Next you'll be moaning about the hideous cost of the proms.

Michael Ball is back in January for 4 weeks then Sir Terry is back for 13 (I think). That would take MB up to the end of his current contract, not heard what his plans are for post April. Personally I suspect the current arrangement has suited them both this year but I hope they can find another slot for Weekend Wogan. Which would allow the Brunch format to carry on throughout the year, ideally with Michael Ball at the helm or a regular cover presenter.

Put him in front of an audience and he just becomes an attention-seeking old eejit.
Which is why I knew WW was never going to work.
Shame really.
if it's not working, why hasn't it been scrapped?
OK, you don't like it, and the OP doesn't like it. I suspect many others do.

No definate comeback date fixed, he simply said "sometime in the Spring"
Maybe this is going to be Richard Madeley's new slot in 2011?
