Are there any Annie Mac fans out there? Is there anyone who loves listening to Annie Mac on R1 (raving show or behaving show), goes to any of her gigs etc?

This is the Annie Mac appreciation thread! You can talk about the songs she is playing on her shows, where she is gigging, and more!

Love Annie Mac. Her Thursday night show last decade was excellent, best thing she's done. She holds her own filling in for Fearne too, and was always great filling in for Zane. Hopefully with Huw now doing the late show, Annie will return to fill in for Zane. The Switch show with Grimmy was never great. I personally prefer Pete Tong doing the 7pm show, but that's because I'm stuck in the last decade and no longer R1 target audience. Long may she continue on radio 1.

Did Annie do electronic music on the Thursday night show like she does on the Friday show now? If not, what did she do. Annie does like other music genresas well as electronics (which she likes the most) and her chill out music.

I prefer Annie Mac to Pete Tong from what I heard on his show, but Pete Tong is good. I heard Annie and Pete swapped because the ratings for Annie were really good. Sounds bad, but I can actually see Pete being moved to R2 soon, same with Scott Mills sadly (hence him and Greg swapping). I think Annie has a very long future ahead though, I don't know anyone that doesn't like her (apart from those who are not into electronics).

I haven't actually heard her covering for Fearne shows before, but I really want to!!

I think she's covering for Fearne next week for a few days. The Thursday show was pretty much identical to the Friday show - there was a great competition called 12 inches of 12 where you could win a pile of vinyl if you correctly identified the correct speed of a track that had been slowed down or sped up.

Ah she is covering Thurs and Fri next week. Wow what a competition!

Actually thinking about it, if you're a DJ and have a set, you could always speed up the track to the same speed as played and try and play them in syncro, and then read the speed lol. That would help identify the speed pretty much.

It's funny how not many people on DS talk about Annie Mac, yet I haven't seen a negative comment about her.

I like to catch up on the wide range of styles she plays on a Friday night, its quite a good digest of new dance music.

I usually turn off fairly quickly though because of the utterly awful imaging on the show. It's actually so bad I find it a distraction.

Now in her late 30s so getting a bit old for Radio 1, although in the Dance genre that doesn't appear to matter as Tong (50s) and Nightingale (70s) are still on.

She choose well going into specialist music if she'd stuck with the daytime slots she'd be soon following Sara, Jo and Edith out of the door.

not really my thing, preferred tong in the 7pm slot (used to prefer it when he did 6-9). her show lacks atmosphere, she has a screachy voice and she is not a very good club dj.

Annie must have been moved to 7pm as she was becoming more and more popular. I much prefer Annie Mac to Pete Tong even though he is a legend.

I love her voice, I love the husky, enthusiastic sound in it. Lots of people say she is a very good cover presenter for Fearne and Zane too, also very bubbly and honest. I think Annie is excellent in gigs. Seeing her and Pete Tong in Radio 1 in Ushuaia, Ibiza... I think Annie was better. Pete Tong was doing his part back to back with Hot Since 82 and he was really focusing too much on the mixing and that whilst Annie put more enthusiasm whilst doing good mixes too. The way Tong put his enthusiasm in was cringey tbh.

People switch when they start to become more unpopular or find that more older listeners listen I reckon.

Annie Mac is very, very popular with my age group (I'm 20), her AMP tour that only happened a couple of nights ago in Bristol sold out when I checked it out in October. So it's a generation thing I think. I reckon Annie has a long future ahead on R1, I think she is the next Tong. Sadly, I reckon Tong may move to Radio 2 in 10 years time at the most, even though his songs are decent.

Annie Mac and Danny Howard I think are the two most popular.
