I liked the original when I first saw it - probably because I was 15 and I remember the buzz it generated before it came out and the posters with the massive alien spacecraft emerging above New York were undeniably excellent. In hindsight, it's an overblown, hammy, corny, predictable film in my opinion. So as you can imagine, I can't say I'm interested in a sequel.

But, having read the synopsis in the link, I do like the idea of Earth having created an advanced defence system in preparation for another alien onslaught as a concept. But as modern cinema has me so cynical, I'm sure it will be another Avengers-style destruction-porn borefest.

You're welcome for the cheerful thread by the way ;-). Any thoughts?

I have the DVD which contains the original cut and the extended version!

    I prefer the original :p

Independence Day was a groundbreaking fikm and really captured my imagination!

It has a great script, strong characters and Good cgi even for its time and is a film I always like to go back to!

I can't wait for resurgence but I just know I'm going to keep composting it to ID and I hope it does the original justice :)
