What songs got you through a hard or emotional break up to try and heal your heartbreak?

I remember when my first boyfriend dumped me when I was about 13 in the summer of 2003, I had Daniel Bedingfield's 'If You're Not the One' on loop for the whole summer :D

When a friend of mine broke up with his long term girlfriend, his friends serenaded him in front of a pub with Neil Diamond's "Love On The Rocks". I'm not sure it healed any heartbreak, though it did make him laugh so it probably helped a little. :)

Mariah Carey's H.A.T.E.U. got me through a pretty bad heartbreak. Somehow, it really soothed me when I listened to it.

    Simon & Garfunkel - I Am A Rock.
    I am a rock,
    I am an island.

    And a rock feels no pain;
    And an island never cries.

Mariah has got tonnes of really good ones. My favourite is The Art of Letting Go. The climax gives me chills.

The Eagles "New Kid in Town," always amused me.
You need to take a positive attitude in that situation.

"Break-Up" songs have been written for over a hundred years.

The C&W industry is built around them.

That's good, but then there's the female singers, who take a more positive attitude to a breakup.

The eagles I'll never forget you til somebody new comes along

Last time I looked, Reba was female... and slightly gorgeous with it.. but the positive attitude collapses a tad at the end of that song...

I wasn't suggesting for a moment that she wasn't female.

I was actually differentiating between the "female carpet" type songs and those about women not willing to take it lying down. I wasn't attempting to make it a gender issue.

My most hurtful time for being dumped was when I was between 15-18 and was in my metal phase, so Limp Bizkit's Boiler was probably the one that I listened to the most. Definitely helped :D

GracieL - Aw that DB song always reminds me of when I reconnected with a boy at school I really fancied and he didn't have a mobile at the time. That song just came out and I had written my number on some paper and was waiting for my mobile to ring. It rang whilst that song was being played... :D

Differentiates between female and women , claims it's not not a gender issue, at least google better
