  To be fair, I've been doing speed tests on my HTC 8X which Three sold me as Ultrafast ready.
  
  Using the speedtest.net app, I ever get is 6Mb and there seems to be no difference whether I am on H or H+. On WiFi the phone achieves about 16Mb.

  You're only every connected to 1 cell site at a time so it doesn't matter how many you see. It's how congested they are or what backhaul they have.
