Iplayer won't download and programmes have disappeared

Iplayer has stopped working on my laptop. After multiple attempts IPlayer desktop will load, although not from the shortcut or the Explorer menu. However even when it loads, all of the programmes downloaded have disappeared. They must still be there as it shows 7.73GB programme space used but none are showing.
If I go to the Iplayer website and try to download a programme it will attempt to do so but then stop within a minute.
I've tried reinstalling Iplayer desktop but it do not make any difference. I've also tried downloading via Internet Exporer rather than Firefox but still no joy.
Can anyone please advise what to do?
