Apologising?
Who said anything about apologising?
She said "at least I've did something right" which if you actually followed the story in which she was being blamed for getting things wrong, the thing she did right was keeping him in active service as she trusted him.
We're all still waiting for you to tell us how you come to the conclusion that M's his mother as so far you've told us nothing that's even believable.
So far, all your posts have done is produce a five letter word beginning with T.

I thought the line referred to Bond turning out to be a good agent as opposed to bad (Silva). They were both under her wing, as it were, and the theme of both being at the mercy of her decisions was played throughout.
The whole 'M = Mother' thing seems to be just another example of that crass modern thinking where everything has to be closely tied together. Though the modern Bonds have obviously played around with the notion of M being a mother figure, I doubt they'd ever be so stupid as to confirm it outright in the family sense.

It was not until the penultimate novel, You Only Live Twice, that Fleming gave Bond a sense of family background, using a fictional obituary, purportedly from The Times.[33] The book was the first to be written after the release of Dr. No in cinemas and Sean Connery's depiction of Bond affected Fleming's interpretation of the character, to give Bond both a sense of humour and Scottish antecedents that were not present in the previous stories.[34] The novel reveals Bond is the son of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, of Glencoe, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix, of the Canton de Vaud.[35] The young James Bond spends much of his early life abroad, becoming multilingual in German and French because of his father's work as a Vickers armaments company representative. Bond is orphaned at the age of 11 when his parents are killed in a mountain climbing accident in the Aiguilles Rouges near Chamonix.[36]

So, Ian Fleming clearly intended Bond to be an orphan. Your silly claim would therefore mean the writers/film producers have completely ignored and disrespected a pretty big chunk of who Bond actually is...
At Skyfall, Bond introduces M to the Gamekeeper and Kincade says, "Pleased to meet you, Emma" according to the subtitles.
So either,
a) the subtitles are wrong
b) Kincade didn't hear Bond correctly and thought he said, "Emma, this is Kincade"
c) Kincade is just having a joke and saying the first name that comes into his head that sounds like "M"
d) Kincade is correct and that is her real name but I don't know how he would know that
e) there's some kind of in-joke that isn't being explained to us
I took it to be that Kincaid had simply misheard 'M' as 'Emma'. Simple.
I do find the conspiracy theories about M being Bonds mother amusing, it's pretty clear to anyone who followed the film that M is referring to her decision to allow Bond to remain a 00 and nothing else.

I think b and c sound the most likely I noticed the 'Emma' thing too - I don't think he would know her real name as you don't really say "Nice to meet you" if you already know someone...
b) Kincade didn't hear Bond correctly and thought he said, "Emma, this is Kincade"
This is pretty much the way I see it too as you could also use the same scenario as most of us do with our own friends in which we may shorten a name ie: I call my mate Rich which is obviously short for Richard and my wife's name is Isla which some of her friends call her 'i'.
Kincade may have just assumed that as he heard Bond refer to her as 'Em' thus being short for 'Emma' which she just didn't correct him and went along with it.

^^ That is the correct answer.
Judi Dench’s ‘M’ is called Barbara Mawdsley. It’s never stated on screen but that was her given name in both the ‘Casino Royale’ script and one of the Pierce Brosnan films. One of the Brosnan films even had a scene where she is called by that name but it was cut and never filmed (I’m sure the film in question is ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ in the opening sequence where she is with the admiral…).
In ‘Skyfall’ Bond says to ‘M’: BOND: ‘M’ this is Kincade, gamekeeper here since I was a boy.
to which Kincade replies: KINCADE: Lovely to meet you Emma….. etc
I always took it as Kincade mishearing what Bond said because later he knows nothing about Bond’s occupation – he even asks Bond what he does for a living these days when they’re out shooting and Bond hits the targets first time. Therefore it is unlikely that he will know what ‘M’ stands for.
As for ‘M’ being Bond’s mother – I'm not sure why some people think this as it is NOT what happened or what was revealed! It is established in the older films (especially ‘GoldenEye’) and ‘Skyfall’ that Bond’s parents died when he was young in a climbing accident. His dad was Andrew Bond and I cannot remember his mum’s name (but it’s written on one of the gravestones Silva sees towards the end of ‘Skyfall’).
What ‘M’ meant when she said “At least I got something right” was referring to hiring Bond as a spy and keeping him on active service even after everyone else wants him sacked and after he failed his tests. basically she's saying she's glad she believed in him and trusted him. This is evident because earlier she says that “orphans always make the best recruits” and in Craig’s previous two films she has stood by him even when he has disobeyed orders and had gone solo. Her dying words have NOTHING to do with her being Bond’s mother.
The whole “mother” thing in ‘Skyfall’ comes from Bardem’s character. ‘M’ being the authority figure at MI6, he likens her to a “mother” to all the agents, including himself. Thus he feels betrayed for her treatment of him and compares it to a mother abandoning a child. Silva also likens Bond’s predicament (being shot and presumed dead, being abandoned by MI6 and his family, being told he is no longer the “in” thing and so on…) to his own and refers to ‘M’ as both his and Bond’s “mother”. What he means is their maternal figure, NOT their actual mothers. Silva even comments about he and Bond being the last two rats in ‘M’s’ organisation. I hope that clears it up for anyone who was confused. It's not really hard to work out....
Ok just watched it last night. I found it incredibly boring! No cars, no gadgets, not enough of the bond girl. The Camp villain character was awful, and tedious unimaginative plot. QoS was bad, but better than this tripe.

Yes, I much preferred QoS with its gadget-laden plot, super-invisible car, butch villain and perfectly comprehensible plot

That article made it sound like he was working on a script but wouldnt direct - I wonder who a new director will be? Martin Campbell was the right choice IMO for Casino Royale.
I suggest Shane Black as the director for the next Bond. Anyone who doesn't know who he is look up his credentials on IMDB but currently he's the director of Iron Man 3 which is out in April and by all accounts is a fantastic character-driven action movie.
Anyone seen the brand new IM3 trailer, it's a-ma-zing!

The writer of Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout? No thanks.
Hang on, waaaay too much thought going into the "Emma" thing... you do realise that "Em" is short for Emma? That's what Kincade heard - "Em", not "M", and being a gentleman, used her full name. I would have thought this was obvious!
EDIT: Missed the post where that was pointed out, sorry. But seriously, I'd be incredibly surprised if it's not as simple as that.
Well in that case he's entirely unproven, but I suspect if he's done as good a job as you say on Ironman 3 he'll be tied in a deal with Disney/Marvel for a while yet.
For me his pedigree seems to be in balls-out action blockbusters, Bond requires something different IMHO, something with a little more class.

Were you in the khazi when Bond and M drove the DB5 up to Scotland?
I agree with you about the second two, though, although some may pass the Walther PPK, personalised to Bond's use only, as a kind of 'gadget'.
There was only one true Bond girl in Skyfall.

back in the 60s 70s and 80s it was common for the directors to do 2 , 3, or even 5 in a row
