I have just got a part time job that is contracted for a minimum of 8 hours a week. I am currently claiming JSA.

Do I have to tell them or am I ok as long as I don't go over the 16 hours per week threshold?

As far as i know you still need to tell them of any employment, even if it is so little hours.

    Keeps yourself right too.

You have to tell them and anything yo earn will be deducted from your Job Seeker's allowance except for the first £5.

    You need to tell them

I hate to say this, but you may have been financially better off not taking the 8 hour job...:cool:

Not telling them would be fraud

I'd rather work for money than get given it for doing nothing.

I only properly started today. I haven't been paid or anything yet.

When you get your first wage in your account, thats when you should tell them.

You have to inform them of any kind of work ,even voluntary and unpaid work must be reported.

    .

Why? Because you've been brainwashed by the protestant work ethic?

Would you rather not breath fresh air just because it is free?

No, it's just that I have been unemployed for a long time so I have become a bit bored of having lots of time to myself and nothing to do.

Besides, I only have to work for about 10 hours to earn the same as what I would receive for a week of JSA anyway.

Good for you, but you do have to be careful. You shouldn't be worse off, but you may have expenses, eg bus fares, lunches.

Also if another job came up, you'd have to give notice.

And yes, you must tell them at the Jobcentre.

Congrats on the job; even if it is only 8 hours a week.

I would happily give up a limb if I could get a job. Over the last 2 weeks I sent off apps to 40 emplyers. Had rejections from 10, the rest not a thing.

I want to get trained in computer repairs but with no money I can't. JC keep saying 'We have a course we can send you on' then I get there and it's the same old tat I've done the past 5 times they referred me.

As I understand it, you must declare as soon as you get an offer of employment and you accept it. That's what happened a couple of years ago when I got a job.
