In the UK, I doubt you'd be allowed to do it without the families in the room, (and all the staff present both in front of and behind the camera would have to be CRB checked) and it obviously makes the kids feel more comfortable. Adds atmosphere too.

The UK DID do it without the families.

It was on last year with John Torode & Nadia Sawalha.

Doubt they'd be able to give away knives as prizes to the kids in the UK either

    never thought of that!:D:D

I don't mind the families being there for the qualifying rounds.....it is nice to see parents (and nonnas!) taking pride in their children

It was so nice to see the Oz judges back again. I love how positive and happy and enthusiastic they are. I know they're being more positive because the contestants are kids, but still, what a nice contrast after the NZ version. They're starting to feel like old friends now, I was so happy to see them back.

Seriously pissed off. Half of those kids can cook better than me. S'not fair.

Oh, and it looks like I'm already addicted to this series as well as MC Aus.

I seriously love George and Gary.
They're both good chefs, not "up their own a***s and great presenters. They have a genuine warmth about them.
Loved the way they interacted with the kids.
The greengrocer et al have one hell of a lot to learn.

They were brilliant I was like gobsmacked at their knowledge.

The twins I think Sophie will win. Her dish was quite brilliant.

I thought how mature the kids were too.

A credit to any parent. I shall be glued now until the end.

I think you will find they are safety knives. YOu can buy these knives for kids they are nylon knives and work the same but the kids cant cut themselves. They are brilliant as my friend has a set for her son who cooks.

I have never seen Aus Masterchef before and I was very impressed. The judges are warm, constructive and look like they are genuinely enjoying themselves.

The kids were fab!! They put me to shame :D

    I am now hooked!

Have to agree with the others that the judges on this are brilliant. They way they came to help the poor girl who's plastic casings had melted was great.

    Me too.

It will be my daily treat - I catch up with the daytime repeat conveniently timed for luncheon :D

Actually, in UK kids version Toad was great with the kids esp. when he did his masterclass bit. He's a dad of 4  so has had a lot of practice.

Yep but that was the 'old' format. Don't know whether we're getting a second UK kids series. And what format it'll follow now... Wiki'd it and there is a jnr version for Phillipines - who'd'a thot

I'm eating my tea - but I've paused.
I have to say - this is the best programme I have seen in a long long time.
If the faces on these children don't make your day twice as good and put a smile on your face ...... just brilliant!:):)

:D:D I know what you mean!

I am amazed at the level of knowledge of these kids and the wide variety of foods they will cook and eat.......things that many adults in the UK would turn their noses up at¬!

I'm intrigued by the plastic knives. They are clearly sharp enough to cut fresh meat - but safer than metal?

A lovely, uplifting programme! It's so heartening to see kids with such an interest in good food. The skill level is just amazing.
